I originally did a set of Ford 2.3T pulleys for my friend's 1984 Mercury Capri RS Turbo a while back, but I coated in the grooves and it was too thick to allow the belt to seat correctly. Sooooo, I did another set with some spare pulleys tonight, which we'll hopefully be installing tomorrow.
The first set were done with Tiger Drylac Xtreme Chrome basecoat, and Columbia Candy Red Translucent over top. They looked like this:
These pulleys had a nice machined finish, so the coating came out nice and "flat." However, one of the spares I was coating was an aftermarket pulley with a sand-cast finish. I wanted to try something that would look good, but mask some of the cast finish a bit. I tried a Columbia Gold Vein basecoat with the same candy red over top.
Pulleys bare:
Basecoated:
Finished:
I think the finish is pretty cool. It does a good job of hiding the rough surface underneath. What do you guys think?
Paul.
