I originally did a set of Ford 2.3T pulleys for my friend's 1984 Mercury Capri RS Turbo a while back, but I coated in the grooves and it was too thick to allow the belt to seat correctly. Sooooo, I did another set with some spare pulleys tonight, which we'll hopefully be installing tomorrow.

The first set were done with Tiger Drylac Xtreme Chrome basecoat, and Columbia Candy Red Translucent over top. They looked like this:

These pulleys had a nice machined finish, so the coating came out nice and "flat." However, one of the spares I was coating was an aftermarket pulley with a sand-cast finish. I wanted to try something that would look good, but mask some of the cast finish a bit. I tried a Columbia Gold Vein basecoat with the same candy red over top.

I think the finish is pretty cool. It does a good job of hiding the rough surface underneath. What do you guys think?

Paul.

Thanks Javi. I'm off work this month, so I have lots of time to do some prep and coating. A stupid rainstorm soaked the media in my blast cabinet despite my best efforts to tarp the crap outta it - but hopefully I have some new media next week. I plan on doing some valve covers to make a little extra Christmas money. :)

Oh, and here's the motor they're going on:

Hopefully it runs! :tongue3:

Here's the SOHC covers that are on Jeff's (Dalamar) car. He was here in Phoenix so I sanded the crap outta them (after he sanded the crap outta them) and coated them with a Columbia single-stage chrome.

So... How much do you charge? I would send you all my pulleys(except smog, I'm getting the delete kit) to get done in chrome since I want nice looking pullies like that, but without having to go U/D route...

The shipping back/forth wouldn't be worth it. I bet you can find a place locally that will do all of it for ~$60. Powdercoating is usually pretty cheap. I don't really do this for money - it's just a hobby of mine. I do it for free for my friends mostly.

Nice work as always Paul. Kind of has a marble effect to it. Heres a pic of my latest project, still needs buffed in the emblem area but its a candy teal in the recessed area and semi silver for the main area. Ive been meaning to ask you, what did you use to bake your transmission housing? Do you have a light cureing system or did you outsource a larger oven?

That looks awesome. How did you do the checkered flags? Also, when you do the recesses, do you just spray one coat over the top, then wipe off the raised section? I want to try some multi-color stuff but I'm not sure where to begin.

For my trans, I just did the sections one piece at a time. The tailshaft housing barely fits in my oven, but it'll get in there if I'm careful. I'm still using a regular old kitchen oven. Nothing fancy.

the second set of pullies you did are amazing looking, love the two tone color.

The TA girdle looks cool too. I have one just like it, but it has Saleen ball milled on it instead of the TA logo, its cool to see one with the TA logo.
