How tough is it to rebuild our 4R70Ws. Thinking about doing it myself
. I have plenty of tools. Is there any specific ones I would need? Only thing sucks is gonna be pulling the trans on stands or ramps.

One more thing I highly recommend the B@M shift important kit if your going to tare into it
There are two kits in one street is mild
Strip is awesome but can not be changed back it's a done deal
Steet can be changed back to stock
And will not need any program

automatic overdrive transmissions require special tools and if I remember correctly they need to be reprogrammed on the shift solenoid valve body
Been a while something to think about
You will feel the difference I will shift harder and quickerHow bad is strip for drivability (not that it's gonna be a DD)? I know there are better kits, but is B&M the preferred kit?

Depending on how fast your going set 45 to 68 step on that pedal all the way the ass end will step out from under you
I have 373 and 285 45 on the rear
Sorry I missed this. The first thing I will recommend is that you watch the video series on you tube AODE/4r70w school. It’s a series and I’ll like the first video here. It shows exactly how to build it and how to make the special tools you’ll need. Over all it’s a pretty easy trans.
Don’t bother with a “shift kit” in this trans, look up the 4r70w J-mod. It was made by the fella that helped design the trans and doesn’t require replacing anything, just removing some accumulator springs and drilling some holes in the separator plate.
For parts, you’re going to want a billet forward drum, hardened stub shaft, upgraded intermediate sprag (mechanical diode), and a sonnax zip kit. That fixes a few different problems, but do not use the stator shaft seals from the zip kit, they are a pain in the ass and aren’t worth fighting. I’m sure I’ll think of more, my brain is a little foggy right now.
Definitely I'd say no on that rebuild kit. It has a shift kit included which is not needed.
Here is an option to look at:

There are many was to skin this cat.
Want a very very good kit? https://www.bcawebstore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=51
What HP/TQ, Power adder, & Trans use?

I would call BCA. You will be putting some torque though it.
I bet he says 300m Input, Drum, and Stub.

That BCA stuff looks pretty good, and is a decent price for what you get. I typically order all my parts through Transtar, just because I used to do business with them and they have always treated me right.
Look through the Sonnax website and get the part numbers for the stuff you need and then you can even look en eBay.
