Removing Spray paint..

My 95 mustang is laser red in color but the previous owner chose to paint these side moldings black with spray paint. So im looking for advice on the best way to remove the black spray paint and leaving the original paint they have.

I dont think its going to come off as easy as you think. Try some paint thinner on a rag, rub a spot, see what happens. If the spray paint job is pretty bad, it might come off. Dont be afraid to rub a little hard, but not too hard. If it works, make sure to wax up the red paint underneath really well. Hopefully the previous owner didnt sand paper the scoops first, then youll have to get them painted anyway..

I agree with everybody else.
You'd be better off sanding them smooth and then paint them to match the body.

I would probably buy some Cobra side scoops, have them painted laser red and just cover that black up. I'm not sure you can remove the black without removing whats under it.

You will be better off leaving them alone. Even if you did get the paint off it will look like crap, and you will have a tough time matching new laser red paint to the old laser red paint. Laser red likes to fae and turn into Laser pink.

you can buy any side scoops they are not specific for GT's/Cobras

Thats all I can find w/ a quick search. Im sure there is a place that sells the OEM scoops as well. Might want to try a ford dealer but bring lube w/ you

I wasn't talking about the factory little vents in the sides, I meant the actual aftermarket scoops you can buy to cover the vents up

Back to the topic real quick, if your patient and have good hands you could wet sand the scoops with 1500 sand paper and then once you see the red use some 3M rubbing polishing compound and that should do the trick and get the result your looking for.

I realize they are not cobra specific buddy. I called them cobra scoops because most people who try to sell them list them as cobra side scoops.

Ill try this tomorrow and report back with the results.

Using the 1500 wet sand paper I was able to remove the black paint off the side scoops. Thanks for the help!
