rpm hangin at 2000

i just put a new battery in the car since the has been siting up for about to or three weeks could this be the tps doing this or the maf going bad an if so how do i test it

Have you cleaned your IAC? My cars I have to clean it occasionally or the rpm's hang like that.

its dose it when im drive n like i have my foot on the gas till i put my foot on the break in till its under 2k then it acts reg. an you can here the idle bounce when it sits for a lil bit. wha do you clean it with

Take it off and clean it out with carb cleaner/pressurized air. Like I said I do it from time to time even if it hasn't started doing it yet just to make sure it doesn't happen. 2 quick easy bolts is easy maintenance with oil changes.

I had a hanging idle on my 5.0. turned out to be a dead spot on the TPS.
it's better to test it with an analog ohm meter but a digital meter can be used.
Connect the ohm meter to any 2 of the 3 wires on the TPS and cycle the throttle very slowly and watch for drops in the meter as the ohms increases.

My 96 has the same issue every time i change the tune or unhook the battery. Our cars computer has an adaptive learning ability. When the battery goes dead or the computer is reset, the computer has to relearn how to run your engine correctly and read the sensors right. It should go back normal after driving it for a week or so.

The car should relearn how to drive and have these related issues go away quicker than a week. Should be within a half an hour.

i can stop the car take my seatbelt off an get out the car be for it drops some times so yea its long. i was thinking its the tps an some times the car will stall when im drivein if i im going about 60 then down shift then push in the clutch an hold down it willl stall out.

Guess my computer is a little slow. Ha ha!

I thought the "adaptive learning" stuff was stored over the course of about 3 long trips. I could be wrong though.

Whenever I had to pull the battery or anything, the V6 that I used to have would run like crap until I made a few long distance trips (25 miles + or so) and then things started to smooth back out. Driving around town, or up to the store and back didn't really do anything to help.

Do u have a programmer and the tps is the easiest to test.

And even eaiser if u har a buddy with a snap on ethos or scanner that gives u live data would be the easiest the maf and tps should move together
So if voltage is rising when the tps is going up the maf should also
