Okay, so i know it's late but I'm irritated and confused.
I have a 94 mustang here.
He's just replaced the pads on his rear brakes.

No rotors, didn't have them cut either. Literally new pads.

The passenger side is fine and dandy.
The driver's side...within a week, ate the outside pad to the steel.
Inside pad is fine.

So he gets new pads...and I redo his caliper and new rotor.
I twist the piston in, not easy, not difficult.
I didn't remove the brake cable. Just left her in park.
Got it all the way in, then got the notches at '12 And '6 put the pad on, with some grease. I would like to mention that while turning the piston, the boot didn't rotate. Which is a good sign.

Now the slide pins and bracket, aren't stuck, but it doesn't exactly slide off without some help.

I'd like to note, NO mounting hardware, no clips for the top or sides...
But I'm only doing what I was asked.

Anyhow, cut the rotor to spec.
Patched everything up.
Within 30 meters, it's back.

A short drive, not using the brakes any more than needed for stop signs.

It's not red hot, but it's indeed radiating heat.
It's not smoking, but smells like burnt brake.
And the wheel is turning black.

Along with a normal screech, and occasional bouts of utter scraping, if the two different sounds make sense.

It's beyond late, but I'm wondering, since the rear pad and side of the rotor appear normal.
That points to the slide pins no?

He asked me to help him figure out what's wrong, but honestly I've not seen a brake do this. It's not happened on any of my 96-03s. I've read about brake dragging, but I assure you it's not smoking.
Also, there doesn't feel to be a massive interference on initial rolling. I.e. feeling like it's scraping, or holding. Just a sqeak, but once up to speed, it's very pronounced and occasionally adds scraping to the normal squeal.

I know slide pins are about $5
But I don't want to seee people, much less tell people to start throwing parts.

Also to note, sound does indeed go away under brake pressure, not just coming to a stop.
I.e. if you push them hard, it'll shut up.
Whether going from 60-30 or 15-0.
And again, inner pad, and rotor look normal.

Any thoughts are appreciated, perhaps I've been at it oo long tonight and I'm just tired and irritated.

I'm going to use a lift tomorrow and try and freewheel it with an extra set of eyes/hands and see if I can make some further deductions myself.
But I'll be checking in to take any advise given.

Like I said, I'm thinking slide pins, based on the outer pad and rotor wear. Possibly a warped rotor.
But the way it's getting so hot is what gets me.

If it were just noisy I'd suggest better quality parts.
But it literally feels like a small space heater on that particular wheel.

Until then, I'm going to call it am evening.

Thanks in advance

Oh, I'll try checking the lines tomorrow when I actually have light.
I halfway ruled them out due to the actual piston side wearing fine and the rotor wear looking good.
I didn't measure run out after our little test drive either....But when it's free and 9pm, at least I'm attempting to help.

he neglected to mention the brake issue began after he curbed it.

the bad part...perhaps?
I'm charging him 250 to fix it.

I'll be sure to waste the three hours I told him it'd take
