Alright guys, so I've gotten my 5.4 torn down to the shortblock, awaiting my ported heads to come in.
Plans (for the moment) are the ported heads, custom cams (close to comp 270's). What is the max the internals can take?
Also will there be any problems with me spinning the 5.4 up to 6,000 RPM's? The last thing I want to do is freaking sneeze a rod after I get this thing but together.
If I really need to replace the rods/pistons then I will, but I will be one uber-sad panda for how long it will take me.

IYW The plan way down the road is for a turbo. So I know I'll have to swap them out eventually....but that a few years down the road.

Thanks for the help in advanced guys

It's the same as the 4.6., 420-450hp. Although they are different rods they were still made from pressed powder and they used tunic pistons. There is no problem with spinning it to 6k except even with cams you'll see a power decrease on the top end. (Not less than stock but not the full gains) Which leads me to my question...

What heads are you going to use? IDK if you know who he is but "Amoosenamedhank" did the swap with his vortech a while back and he wasn't happy with the end result of power from essentially the engine running out of air because the heads couldn't flow enough, top end. If you are using Foxlake or even the new untested Trickflows I think it would help out a lot.

I know it's always easier to spend other peoples money but for the cost of a good set of heads & cams, you could buy a 4v and swap parts to your 2v block. A built 5.4 4v is plenty of fun driving on the street till you do get the turbo.

I should also add, fuel is one of the most important things here, make sure you've got enough pump. A walbro 342 (or 392 I don't remember which one is which, I have both) "In Tank" 255 pump @ 14v took me to 488 with a S/C. (which requires more fuel than a turbo)

Yeah ive been thinking about grabbing either a SVT focus pump or a Walbro....thats one thing I wouldve never thought about lol.

ITs from a company called modularspeed. The same people I got my cams from, Im really bugging them to get me flow numbers, bc as you said the 5.4's get starved for air up top so I've got the cams takin care of so I dont want to skimp on the heads...

How much were your fox lakes???

foxlakes cost $1800-2000. Normally depending on the options. If you are going to go with or think about FoxLake, Call Bob Kurgan. He's been sponsored by FL for years and can get a killer price on them. He's actually on my speed dial, lol. He's helped me out of a few pickles, got me a great price on my vortech and other stuff.
