Hello.

On my -95 GT we are (or were) going to change the clutch this weekend as perhaps last job before season is over.

I bought a new bearing retainer M-7050-B and it arrived today.

When I checked it closely I can see hariline cracks - they do now seem to be ridges - and I'm quite concerned if they actually are cracks. Which not be ideal.

I Googled and saw LMR to have one of these as well and even that one seems to have cracks.

Is this something common and should I return this and do the clucth next year with all steel retainer?

I'm quite certain that there is something going on with the existing bearing retainer as pedal clutch bite point seems to vary.

These three are from mine:

Oh man. I don’t know, that’s a tough call. You could possibly bring it to a machine shop that crack checks cylinder heads, and see if they could check that for cracks.

Often times these are artifacts left over from the casting process. If the blank or die used during the casting process has any cracks, they transfer over to the part being made. I would take some sand-paper and knock down one of those lines to see if it stops at the surface, or continues deeper indicating a true crack.

That is what I had in mind, too. But I'll wait what the shop says as after I sand it then returning is no longer an option.

This one is from Summit site. I may not be the only one with this problem.

I'm almost 99% sure the one installed on my current T5 has the same artifacts.

Do you guys by any chance happen to know if there is a bearing retainer which has sleeve and flange both made of steel?

This is for a -95.

Look up Paul Cangianlosi
He’s a T5 specialist has a lot of good info on many different manual gear boxes.
He also had a complete book on how to upgrade and build a T5.
It was on Amazon don’t know if it is anymore or out of publication.
Plus he gives a little bit of the history on the T5 and the differences of the T5 evolution over years.

Here are some pics of T5 for my 1996 build.
Got it from the junk yard and wanted to make sure everything was good.

Thanks for the tips. Returned this Ford M-7050-B today. Need to find a steel one during winter.
