Ok i have been looking around to find a T5 to keep as a spare for my 94. Second gear is getting a little harder to shift and the trans has always felt pretty notchy. I was hoping swapping the clutch cable and quadrant would help but it didnt'....although it did make the clutch pedal much easier to push :) Anyhooo i found two T5's on craigslist not to far from where i live. The first one is out of a Fox body and is supposed to be about 35k miles on it and no issues the guys is asking $150. The second one is out of a 95 and has a little over 50k miles again no issues he is asking $350. Again i wanted to get one as a spare and my buddy knows how to tear them down and rebuild so i planned on checking through either one i got to make sure its good before swapping. I am just trying to figure out if not having to swap out the input shaft and retainers is worth the extra $200. Plus either one is going to be a crap shoot since they are not in the car so there is no real way to know the mileage or condition of either one. What can i check when looking at them to get an idea if there could be any issues or not? Which one would you guys go with?

I'd probably try to find a 94-95 since I believe all of them had the tapered roller pocket bearing at the front of the mainshaft vs the fox cars (except 93 cobra) which all had needle bearings.

There's no way to tell what condition they're in without taking them apart and looking for yourself. Also, most people on CL will just lie and/or make up the mileage.

I just sold my powdercoated T5-Z in excellent condition with a countershaft reinforcement, aftermarket shifter, and matching bellhousing on CL for $600.

See I told you, your selling everything.

Just pick up the cheapest decent one you can, get it rebuilt.
