Hey,

So I've been slowly working on getting stuff together for a PI swap. Long story short, I now have a complete 02 GT motor. I got it for $100 from a friend :D He said it made a ticking noise and had low oil pressure after warming up. He thought it was a spun rod bearing. Note the broken chain guide in the second pic- the rest just came off (didn't have to loosen the bolt to get it off). Could this cause his symptoms?

Anyway, I got my hands on an impact gun the other day so I had some fun getting stuff apart tonight. What do you guys think of the condition of this head? (I'll post up pics of the other one when I get it off... gotta figure out what to do about that oil spilling out)

The timing guide would cause that, yes. As for the head's, they look like they need a tanking, and pressure test at least.

Alrighty thanks. They should be fine then, considering the car ran perfectly before the ticking sound began?

looks good to me, the heads look in good shape... not a lot of carbon or ash.

Cool thanks for the help guys. I know I can use carb cleaner on the intake ports- will that also work on the under side? (sorry, i'm not up to date on all this technical jargon)

the poor boy's way to tell if the valves are ok and the seats are ok is to put water in to the ports and see if it runs out around the valves... also, you could fill it with carb cleaner and let it sit to take deposits out.

Oven cleaner will strip nearly anything, as long as you have a big enough tub, and no small pets around. You'll need to scrub a bit, but no big deal. I need to scrub stuff that comes out of my part's washer too, no matter how long I let it bounce up and down in there.

I suppose you could cut it, I just never do, the real stuff is pretty cheap funnily enough, lol.

its just that most oven cleaner is in a spray can.. so that would suck to fill a tub with about 20/30 spray cans lol.

I'm talking about the old school, real oven cleaner, it's purple, comes with a warning not to get it on your skin, lol.

yea its ok, but its still not oven cleaner... watered down purple power is what you use to get an interior clean. :) worked like a charm.

So I have a 60 gallon rubbermaid tub... could I just pour this crap in there and soak each head in it one at a time? Parents would never let me use the tub in hour house :p

Yep, :thumb: No0t Purple Power though if it's not oven cleaner. Just real liquid oven cleaner.

Hey, are you guys sure that you want to use oven cleaner? It is usually sodium hydroxide and works well on enamel surfaces (like the inside of an oven) and is OK for iron heads but it will corrode aluminum. I would cut it with plenty of water or use an aluminum-friendly degreaser. Don't want to cause undue alarm but it would be a pity to mess up your heads!
