Long story short, was pulling off of my street the other night, and the car (way) behind me came up quite a bit faster than expected.

Caught Second, went for Third and... KKKKSHHHHHTTTTT goes the trans, and I bumped the rev limiter.

Outcome?

Didn't hurt the engine (Thank God) but the trans is definitely noisier than before my screw-up. Shifts are normal and require no more effort than before my epic fail but it went from box of rocks to louder box of rocks.

Borrowed time? Can't help but get a little nervous driving it. I upgraded to a Pro5.0 shifter so I'm wondering how much that's magnifying the noise without any rubber isolators.

Needless to say I'm pissed with myself and have been driving like a grandma since.

I'd keep driving it like grandma

It may actually be fine but I wouldn't chance it. I accidentally threw mine in reverse (automatic) while being a tard at 30mph and it's be fine. But it is 4 years old so it's about time to go anyway. That was a year ago and now when it's cold out it takes a minute for the bands to swell so I always let it warm up a good 15 minutes just to help it last until I can replace it AGAIN

Keep driving. When it suddenly doesn't want to go into gear, grinds every gear, or you hear a loud bang, then proceed to mess with said transmission.

This is encouraging news. Guess I'll call myself lucky especially since the car is my DD and I'll stop being a dumbass. I don't normally drive it like I stole it.

I have personally shattered two T-5's in my Fox and everytime it was a 2nd to 3rd gear slam. Just be careful bro, prolly riding on borrowed time.

I got my stock tranny stuck in first gear when my car was close to stock. Didnt matter what gear or place of the shifter..When I let out off the clutch it was in first ..lol I now sport a Tremec 500...Banging gears without a prob for years now..

I have no idea. I bought my car with it already installed but my old one was stock. I figure I will take a better look at everything when I do the clutch hopefully this summer.

Oh, boy... Should have known the "you should be beating the shit out of it because it's a Mustang" crew would have shown up.

Some of us don't have weekend/fair weather cars that get run hard and put away wet, some of us only have our trusty Stangs as our DD. Christ, mine's all-stock except a Pro5.0 and a removed intake silencer and a Pioneer deck with a bad ground. There's nothing wrong with me for missing a gear (none of you are perfect, either, park your damn egos) and/or not driving the piss out of the car every time out. There's a time and a place. I've been around these cars since I was in grade school... respecting and enjoying the Mustang legend. There's a world out there past beating the fuck out of your car...You'll get there...

As for my trans, still a little noisy on decel, no louder than normal under load. Shifts are still smooth as a TR3650 will let them be. I think it's safe to say I dodged a hell of a bullet.

Id have to say if you can drive it and it still shifts smooth with no grinds or pop outs then you are okay just be careful =]
