Timing problem?

I got a new distributor and the day I picked it up the timing was slow so I brought it back, he advanced it and it ran weird for a little but then settled down and ran normal for about a day and a half. Then it started acting up again yesterday morning. When below about 1700 rpm it starts to jerk alittle and almost feels like it's going to stall even when I'm on the gas. Then if I put the petal down to accelerate fast when I get to about 4500 rpm it starts to make a noise that sounds like something plastic is being stuck into a bicycle spoke (sorry best way I can describe it) if it helps the last time I heard this particular noise is when one of my spark plug wires was off but I checked the wires as soon as I heard the sound and they are all on

Also it is idling high at about 1250-1500 rpm

Help please? I'm learning but I'm still a noob.

i would recheck your timing and be sure to pull the spout connector on the pass side inner fender before setting timing. im wondering if the plastic in bike tire sound is detonation.

Like I said I i heard it once before when one of my spark plug wires was off but i've triple checked all of them and made sure they where as far on as possible.

def dont push it hard to make that plastic noise. im sure its detonation and is hurting your motor. Im sure you plug wires are all fine. there is a small light gray plastic plug in sensor under the hood on the pass side inner fender, called the spout connector. You need to pull that out before trying to set the timing on the car with the timing light. Stock setting is 10 btdc. set it, tighted down the dizzy, shut off the car and plug back in the spout connector and your good to go.

also verify your firing order. 2 of the wires could have easily gotten mixed up.
since your a noob at all of this, get a Haynes/Chilton manual and start reading. Doing the distributor yourself could have saved you $100 bucks

I have a chilton but i didn't do the wires this time. My mechanic did. I know the firing order from when i did my tune up, but i'll double check it.

Distributor could be in wrong. Timing could be off. Plug wires mixed up. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

Also note that these cars will spin a stock harmonic balancer and throw off the numbers. Mine spun and quickly spun my spare off another engine. I will bet thats why you cant time it

No I got it right, Drives great now. My stepfather taught me how to adjust it right, when we went to loosen the bolt it was already loose :/
