When I was wet sanding the front cover out in the bright sun. I noticed the paints beauty when water was setting on it.

Thank you! Easy to do a tiny pc! The full car....different story! A facility for painting would be idea! This is alot of work!! I can see the rewards, but dang is it tough with spray cans.

I do not have one. I do have great neighbors that would most likely let me borrow one. Should I get it now before applying the clear?

Well you have to buff after you clear so I suppose it could wait... It will speed up the polishing big time!

I like that idea!

I got the clear even with this pc. If I approach each body panel one at a time do yoh think the clear will be even? Or is it not as important? Can this clear process get really screwed up?

The clear is just that... Clear! That being said, how close each panel matches depends on how even the color went on underneath it. After that its just a matter of getting the shine brought up completely on each panel. Buff well... but watch the edges...

So, just for my own info, if I color sand and buff, do I have to sand again to get the clear to stick? What amount of grit does the clear need to grab?

Yes. Absolutely.

800-1000 grit will do it.

Color sand and buff? Like sand the paint and then buff before clear coating?

I wet sanded the hood on the truck up to about 5k to get rid of the orange peel from spraying and buffed it, so then I should go back over it with 800 or 1000 to give it enough for the clear to grab

Yes.

But in the future... If your just trying to get the texture out so you can re-spray it, you dont have to go that high with the grits and buff, you can just flatten it real good with 800-1000 then re-spray.

Buffing does not remove a significant amount of texture.

I wet sanded the whole car the other day. In a small spot I buffed to give me an idea. I realized more wet sanding! This stuff is a job!
