You only need a spring compressor if the coils are under tension (True Macpherson Strut)

On out cars since the spring is not under tension you dont need it.

all you do is remove the wheel
Then place a floor jack under the A-Arm and put slight tension....then remove the 2 bolts holding the strut to the spindle.

Once the 2 Spindle/Strut bolts are removed you can just lower the floor jack which lowers the A-Arm and then you can just pull the spring out because its not under any tension.

Red Took my Advice on this method and he said it went like a breeze.... This is how most people install springs on a 79-04 Stang

nvr heard of doing it that way but if it works.

and also, do you just jack the car up and let the spring hang all the way down THEN undo the bolts?

You can do it that way but I prefer to leave the strut connected to the spindle and drop the a-arm from the k-member. You get ALOT more drop out the car a-arm pivoting on the ball joint. Either way though, you don't need a spring compressor. Once the arm is at full droop...the springs have MAYBE 20-30lbs on them...nothing that is going to fly out on you. Make sure you disconnect the sway bar.

You jack up the car and take the wheels off....then place the floor jack under the A-Arm and put slight tension just to undo the 2 bolts.....then remove the jack and spring goes in. when you want to put the spring in just put the springs in the perch then place the floor jack under the a-arm and jack up to install those 2 Bolts again.

easy as cake.

Red accually paid someone to do it until i told him how easy it was :coolsmiley:

It's easy... I've done it so many times on my '99 and now the '95 I have now that i can do it with my eyes closed. don't forget to take off the brake caliper and tie it up outa the way, when you remove the front rotor it's pretty easy... you might need a pry bar doing it Handz' way... thats the way i do it, and sometimes with old sprigns a long prybar is VERY handy to have.

If i hadn't drawn a complete blank, i could tell you the exact size wrenches and sockets you would need, but i'm dumb, and i can't think right now... my mind is on the beautiful weather outside, and how i'm stuck on this big floating piece of metal shit on duty till tomorrow morning.
