i was speaking to my professor at my technical school about my GT. I dont know how the topic got started but we started talking about my exhaust. I installed my flowmasters in class about 6 months ago and both him and I were not impressed with the sound. He stated that making the exhaust a true dual may influence the sound volume and tone a little more. basically meaning, cut off the H section of the factory H pipe so theres no pulse equalization. now this sounds like it would hurt HP, but im not sure exsactly how it would sound. Im going to school full time..occasionally buying snap-on tools with a limited student discount, so i dont exsactly have a whole lot of cash to throw into my car. does anyone know how the car may react/sound with no H pipe, just duals all the way back.

Does your car have cats on it? If so that is why it is not loud. The reason for the crossover is to equalize the exhaust gas pulses to help get the used air out as quickly as possible. The faster the used air gets out the faster the new air gets into the heads for combustion.

You live in one of those states LOL... You could go with an aftermarket catted X or H pipe. What year is your car? I know my 96 had 6 cats on the damn thing.

yup, its a 96 with the mid pipe from hell. i just hate how some v6 sleeper looking crap of a camaro will sound ruthless with just a cat-back, while mine almost makes it quieter. i know loud doesnt mean fast, but gimmie a break. :wall:

Not really, some states don't even allow the removal of the factory mid pipe, period.

Well... you could look into getting a resonator instead of a muffler. Ask SouthernGun about LM1's!!!

You won't gain anything by doing that if that is what you mean.

I have a catted X with LM1's and have passed emissions and inspection for the past two years. Never paid a mechanic off or swapped midpipes. All I had to do was get MIL eliminators.

I have absolutely zero experience with emissions stuff as we are not checked in Alabama. I run an offroad x with Flowmasters.

When I originally put my magnapack exahust on my 6 cats. I was depressed because it was still pretty quiet and it was basically straight through. No that I have an o/r x-pipe to go along with it I can wake up the dead if I give it full throttle. Unfortunately I live ins one of "Those" areas as well, but in SE WI they only test every other year so I dont think it is too big of deal to swap out.

yea lol the mid pipe is where the sound is at. I'm even thinking what my car would sound like with the o/r prochamber with the stock cat back... b/c i liked the way the stock thing sounded but it wasn't loud when i got on it... thats all i wanted.
