So my trunk button on my key ring has slowly been dying and now it's to the point that it won't work at all, the inside button inside the glove box still works and that's what I've been using. So today I went and bought new batteries for my keyless entry remote and still no go. So what could it be, is there an actuator somewhere that could be going out? Or is it the remote itself? Another thing is that the hole where the key goes won't turn, so I can stick the key in but it won't turn, was there a separate key for that? Or is something broken? Because from what I can see that assembly is riveted onto the trunk hatch and there's no way to undo that. I have already taken off the little plastic thing with the cable attached to it and looked inside and from what I can see everything's intact, but I have no idea how the darn thing works. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried both key fobs? Spray the trunks lockset out with WD-40 or sewing machine oil to loosen it.

+1 on the penetrating oil, once you have it free to turn with key also put some graphite in there so it doesnt sieze up again

If all the other functions on the fob work, you may have a badly worn contact behind the trunk button. When closed up, the unit fits pretty tight so I dont think there would be too much dirt & crap in there. Might want to just buy 2 new fobs and program them both.

I did completely tear apart my fob when I replaced the batteries and there wasn't anything anywhere, it may just be something on the board that went out too, I guess I'll replace both and then I'll know for sure. Thank you for your help. And I did try the penetrating lubricant and it hasn't yet worked, but I keep putting more in every half hour or so.
