probe and livernoise both make stroker kits for your car.

475 MAX hp on your current bottom end.

didn't the cobras have forged cranks?

i beleive so, but im not 100% in which case an 03/04 cobra set up (That you can find used occationally) would work great if you can find a kit with no crank.

i am pretty sure that the cobra crank is forged. and if you have the car tuned right it can support probly in the 500 hp range on 93 octane or even 91. my father has a 96 cobra and his tuner said 500 should be no problem. if you want more, you pay a whole lot more. haha

to be honest, i was just posting a reply to the stroker kit question, and i had my buddy on AIM at the time with a 97 cobra. so i asked him and he said 475 max RWHP. so thats what i posted.

if the cobras used the same rods as the GTs, i wouldnt (personally) go past 450 RWHP... i woulndt go past 425 RWHP on a stock GT.......

the crank might handle 100000000000000000000000 HP, but the rods and pistons play a roll as well....

well, my father and i are both twin turboing our mustangs. so we will see if our cars blow up by the end of november haha. but, yes your right. rods and pistons are a big deal. the pistons on a cobra are different. i'm not sure about the rods however.

I'm a huge Probe fan but DO NOT buy their stroker kits. The skirt design is very weak. If the OP or anyone wants a great cheap forged kit ebay sells Probe kits at an awesome price. If you want stroker, (I Have no idea why anyone would since it's almost Hp worthless) go with another brand.

If someone really wants to increase displacement then they need to spend the jack and buy a big bore kit.

A properly prepped cobra crank can handle 1000hp and 8k rpm. The GT crank is a little less at about 750rw and questionable RPM between 7-8k rpms.

(And before I get the standard reply, "GT cranks are only good to 600rw"; have YOU ever known ANYONE that blew up a GT crank? I'd say 70% of all broken cranks I've heard of had questionable aftermarket balancers or even stock balancers. )

you could also piece together your own stuff. i have a stock cobra crank (forged), Eagle Hbeam rods and JE pistons with ARP 2000rod bolts. i like the setup. then you could get your machine shop to bore out your cylinders to fit whatever you wanted. just another option.

Nerd is correct. its the RPM/bearings that kills the GT Crank. elastomer dampner doesnt help neither.

The '96-'98 Cobras have the same crank as the Terminator Cobras.

The 96-98 Cobra's have a forged crank. But the rods and pistons are not forged. I would not go over 8-10 psi boost with a stock bottom on a 96-01 Cobra or 03-04 Mach1. They have a higher compression ratio and can not handle high boost. The 03/04 Cobra's came from Ford with a forged bottom end and can handle up to 600+ rwhp. I would not even try for 450rwhp on a stock bottom 96-01 Cobra or 03-04 mach1.

Look at it this way. Jack up the boost and see what happens. You don't wanna be that guy that asks himself what if... If you throw a piston through your hood just grab a termi block. lol jk.
Good luck gettin the boost up high at a SAFE level.
