Weight on clutch fork

Installed my T5 today and when we got ready to put my new clutch fork in we were all scratching our heads as to whether or not it needed the weight on it. I know the old clutch fork I took out of the transmission did not have the weight on it but we left it on anyway. Is it needed? And what exactly is it's purpose? For those reading this that don't know the car it's a 94 GT that just received a T5. Also using a Ram clutch and clutch cable and firewall adjuster from Maximum Motorsports. Thanks for any help.

I would think, if the old one didn't have don't put it on the new one. Honestly though, I have no idea what it's for.

That's what I was thinking but we decided to leave it on for now anyway. It looks simple enough to remove should I need to. Just curious as to what exactly it's purpose is?

From what I've found It's for vibration and noise dampening just like the huge weight hanging from the rear diff.
