Still not a Mustang, but I'm between coats spraying in a bedliner. Grey tinted, doing a total of 4 bottles. I think if I was planning to do a lot of hard work with this truck I'd want 6 and go double thickness on the bottom but it's going to be decent I think with the 4 quarts.

Survey says, Cylinder 7 welded it's rod bearing to the crank. Also damage to about all of the rod journals. Now it spins free as a bird. I'll see what the machine shop says.

Trying to be helpful getting a friends SBF in his Cobra (kit) to fire. Sniper needed some tweaking and then the timing marks had to be verified. So, used my TDC tool, crank by hand, get TDC, mark damper, double check with tool (hand rotation again) and I pull the tool out and "WHAM", the tip came off in the cylinder. OMG! Everything immediately to a halt. Got my camera out and sure enough, it's in there. So, today I'm going to try a little trick, which may not work, but if not, the heads coming off. Just what this guy needed because it's getting loaded into a container headed for his new home in England next week. I should have it fired up by noon, even if I pull the head. btw: in over 40yrs in this industry, this has never happened to me, but there's always a first time for everything.

Oh, that sucks. :(
But there's any easy solution how to remove it:

I probably could but I would probably lose some torque
I know the elbow i have coming is a little shorter distance from throttle body to intake flange
I may get the spacer for the one I have and try both
To test run

If it's not one problem, it's always another. Putting this to bed, due to the car being shipped to England (and I'm not doing a road trip), it's all back together, runs (sorta) and now there's a new problem. However, it's not related to what I did when the tip came off. It all went well, tried to suck it out with a strong vacuum, but that failed so it was time to pull the head. Camera spotted the tip and when the head was off, it was still there! Cleaned up and back together in a few hours, adjusted the valve lash, installed new plugs, got it all ready and hit the button. Started, but then died after a few seconds. Started back up, got it to hold for about 30sec at 2000rpm, then died again. After that it was just a bunch of run, no run, run, no run and trouble-shooting to find out why.

I double checked the Sniper wiring, even putting a solid 12v supply line to it. No dice. Pump would prime, but no start. Next was checking the RTR distributor output (BluePrint engine)...no spark. Hhmm?? Eliminating the Sniper from the coil and then testing spark and it lit up like it should, so, I thought there was something wrong with the Sniper unit causing the no spark from distributor (they do have issues). Put the yellow wire back to coil negative and bam, started again, but only ran about 5secs. They I took the yellow wire off the coil again and tested the spark...TA DA...nothing! I let it sit for a bit, tested again, spark, quit, no spark, etc., so now it's down to the RTR distributor replacement.

On the bright side, when I did initially have it running it sounded great and ran smooth, until it didn't. So, it's being shipped off next week and the owner will deal with it once it gets to his new home in England in three months. So, I'll be doing a lot of tech support for him when that time comes to get it going again. Lucky for me, he does have some savy, but does need assistance to which I'm more than happy to offer. Owner waited too long to get this job done, just in case something happened, which it did. I just feel bad because I couldn't get it right before it goes away.:(

Oh, on top of that he has, oil leak at pan (he did the work), brake fittings at MC's both seeping fluid (his work), electrical not completed, etc.

I've attached pics from the ordeal.

After head removal...yep, still there.

Loctite'd and back where it belongs. I will never install this again without insuring it's firmly attached!

Cleaned up nicely.

Just before startup and the problems that came after. It does sound good though.

I'm surprised that a Hyperspark ignition wasn't used with the Sniper. It sure makes things easy. Hopefully you figure out the issue.

The owner got this via BluePrint engines. Very good and I've installed them before, even with a RTR distributor and Sniper without issues. The Hyperspark may be a better option now due to needing an new distributor. For the cost of an MSD, a few hundred more will give him electronic timing features. Not sure he's up for it and I'll be doing a lot of online tuning, but the long run is better. It's just ashame this thing didn't last. He's had the setup for 4yrs and finally getting it fired up for the second time. About two years ago I had it running fine before he did some work, changed intake gasket due to leak and then stabbed the distributor (off two gears) and I got involved again. Maybe it'll turn into a good Christmas gift for him to fire it up once at it's new home.
