DFG Pimpin ran a 13.6 on his 96 GT with full exhaust, bigs and littles, and a cold air intake plus a little weight reduction (no seats, spare, etc.). Pretty impressive for a crappy 2v.

NPI at that. If you know where to spend your money and at least know a little bit about cars. You'll be fine with the Modular.

i know what u mean, 13's aren't fast but idk, im just not sure what i'm going to do, cause pretty much anything i do to my car is going to be worthless.

this shit pisses me off man.

yea, it sucks...

but if you listen to people and do things right, you can have a fast car on a decent budget.

Theres nothing you can do thats gonna touch the bang for the buck of a pi swap.

4.10s will wake it a lot too

o.r mid pipe is another good bang for the buck

You really cant gain much power without swapping to pi parts man..trust me...look at my car.

Ive got like every bolt on possible, even a pi intake, and Im running 14.0, high 13s on a good day.

With pi cams and pi heads I would be so much faster its not even funny.

Im with you v...
I love my 96 but its just a bad platform to start with if you dont want to spend money andtime to make it fast.

wow i just read ur list and it's pretty much exactly what i would want to do to my car, just minor diff's like h to x and stuff.

and you only run high 13's or 14's? would an auto/ manual make alot of difference?

this is just really depressing, almost makes me feel like only putting my catback on and selling the rest to buy the nova :/ this night just keeps getting worse.

I love my 98 to death too V... idk what i'd do without it. probably die.

Practice, practice, practice. Just because you make the same power as the next guy DOES not mean you'll run the same time. Take it to the track and find out. Then get better.

not bad at all for the motor, granted weight reduced 5.0s, with a gear and tire run low low 13's to high 12's if its got a healthy motor in front of it, (as in not wore out). Theres a guy on stangnet runng 12.7s on stock heads and stock intake, stock degreed 87 mustang cam in a lx hatchback :dunno: just something about em.

theres a flaw within that statement, right about there, you will run out of motor, and unless you care to make the car a shell on wheels, you will need to start spending money. And unless you are one resourceful bastard and get good deals left and right, you WILL be spending much more money to go just as fast as a 5.0.

i'm a hell of a driver, been racing since i could put 2 and 2 together. Had every famous and well known racer in south carolina teaching me how to drive, and i can say in just about all types of open track (except drifting, bleh) i can hold my own very well. Without anyway to launch i'm running high 13's, which is not bad at all, with a stock NPI motor. Search, i made a post about it a while ago w/ the info. I just think it's said that us mustang guys are all arguing over how to get into the 13's.. we shouldn't be doing this.. this is the same thing honda guys do, we should be there with minimal effort, thats my gripe with the NPI motors, much less the 4.6s in general (2v's)

Yea, dfg was able to run like 13.6x...I believe it was more like 13.7 but anyways...he was launching the hell out the car with the slicks and had weight reduction.

With a 5 speed and the right setup you can run a lot faster than a stock stalled auto since you can launch.

You gotta realise that the car will only go so fast...what DFG did was great but he was cutting like 1.6x 60 foot times I believe which is where all the time came from.

Without the slicks and launching the hell out of the car, it would be another low-mid 14 second npi

Do you plan on running with street tires or do you even plan on getting a set of slicks or DRs?

like v said...you will run out of motor

DFG ran 13.6-13.7 with a 98 mph trap speed and launching the hell out of that car.

That car is topped out...theres really nothing left in the car cause of its power level IMO.

You've been taught by all the "famous" guys and my statement is "flawed". Ok. I'm not about to argue on the internet.

Where did i mention your statement was flawed? I'm not seeing it. Two cars, equally the same, is a drivers race. But in dfg's case, the car was absolutely maxed out. You can say mine and justins car has much more potential then what we run, power wise, maybe a little, driver was, hell no, i havent had anyone out drive me yet. See the issue here is that no one but a few have truelly pushed a bolt on NPI car thats got alot of things against it, really hard. I have, i know its potential, and compared to all my other cars, this thing is sad. I love it, but it's sad.

Eddie tumbelston, bubba owens, bubba miller, ernest hilton and many many others that have won championships all across the south east taught me how to drive. It definately helps, every little bit.

IF going fast through the 1/4 mile is ABSOLUTELY all you care about, and doing it as cheaply as possible, then you shouldn't be doing it in a production passenger car anyway. If you want a "real" car to do it in, it shouldn't be ANY Sn95 based one... A damn Fairmount with a junkyard 460 and spray would be quicker, there's always a way to go quicker cheaper. That argument is a deadend.

thats not the arguement though, it's going fast cheap in a fox chassis'd production mustang. Cheap fast is a notch 5.0, that is the answer above all.

Where do you get a cheap 5.0 notch? They go for more than Sn's around here, in worse shape too.

around here they are cheap. Paid 300 dollars for one once. Normally 500 ish all day long. 460 longblock from the junkyard, maybe 200-300. swap parts are a good 1000, cheap cage etc. fast street car would probably cost me 3500-4000 but thats loaded and blinged out. However that doesnt cost the gas.. lol

Actually, cheap fast would be a bubble-hatched '79 Capri.

Oh, and this thread is epic.

how so? that everyone has almost rationally agreed they are far from being worth the time to mod :dunno:

That's why it's epic. It's a bunch of modular guys sitting around talking about all the reasons why they're not worth the effort.

It's all you kids running around saying "It's too hard to turn a wrench..wahhh...Modulars are SO diffucult...wahhh..".

Like reality saying he doesnt want to touch the engine but wants to run mid 13s haha

man i got a headache from reading all of this 2v crying.. whats the fun in something easy? mod motors are challenging thats what brought me to buy my car.. i have seen a lot of 2v's hit consistent 13's with under 1,000 bucks.. i know a few of you read my post about a friend who was running consistent 11's for 1200 bucks.. if you don't like the 2v sell it and stick with the 302.. wheres the fun in making things easy.. he just wanted to know what would get him into 13's he didnt want to hear a bunch of people telling him hes wasting his time.. i'm sure he knows he can buy a fox for 800 bucks and buy a fast motor/tranny combo for 3k or less.. wheres the fun in that?

to run 13s i would get the PI intake, long tubes with o/r H pipe no cats, 4.10's, and some d/r's and if you want spray it.. but have someone tune it.. and dont forget about suspension!!!!

if you want a fast NPI they are right it will cost you.. get the heads ported i would definitely get at least the PI intake.. get some stg2 cams (whatever company you like) eaton posi with some good 31 spline axles, sticky tires and a 150 shot then get it tuned.. everything i mentioned can be had at a relatively good price.. just do some searching

and if you want to build a nasty street car get an aluminum explorer block, ported PI heads, ported typhoon intake, cams, longtubes, k-member with coilovers front and back, 90/10's up front 50/50's in the rear, eaton posi with 31 spline axles, 4.10's, slicks with skinnies up front, then get that tuned on a 150 shot.. lighten things up wherever you can.. along with the k-member get some lightweight a-arms some adjustable uca's and lca's a lot of people try and just get a shit ton of hp/tq without a good suspension set-up.. suspension is a big part of running low times.. this set up would not be cheap but you would have a nasty street/strip car if you do some research and wait for some good deals to come along it can be done within a nice budget..

i love nitrous if yall couldn't tell.. i just haven't ventured into turbo or s/c power adders yet.. i'm sure someone will say everything i listed is pointless if you just turbo a PI motor.. but again the fun part is being different and doing things yourself.. doing what everyone else does and whats easy is not fun IMO..
