Where should I put Dynamat (or similar) to reduce exhaust resonance inside?

Title pretty much explains it. I wanna go with a louder muffler (or straight pipe...thoughts??) but I don't wanna deal with it being much louder in the car at highway cruising speeds. Where would you put the dynamat to absorb some of this? Trunk? Under rear seat? Under the carpet in the back?
I really don't know anything about the stuff, but I know I like the idea of what it does! Shit, maybe I'll just wrap the mufflers in it. hahahaha (that wouldn't actually work, would it?? :drunk:)

I'm not meaning to sound like an ass, I promise! I drive my Mustang because it sounds like a Mustang!! Why spend $ on your SS Ultra Flo Mufflers, MagnaFlow SS axle-back, and UPR catted X; just to not be able to hear it fully? Sorry, just seems like your canceling yourself out. Just my 2 cents worth!

wimp ^-^

Just like he said. (not meaning to sound like an dip shit)
Why get an exhaust u cant hear because you modded your car to block the sound?
The whole part of my exhaust is for me to hear. I could care 2 cents about the people around me. Which is the reason i have dumps which sound kick ass from inside the car.

Drone is a part of the mustang with an aftermarket exhaust ( i think() ITs like having a girl with no vagina at all :pimp2: i mean no sense in having her. :D

hahahhaha I KNEW I was gonna get replies like this. But in all honesty, it would just be nice to have it nice and loud OUTside, and not-so-loud inside. If it were as rumbly and deep IN the car as it is outside, then I wouldn't mind it as much. But the drone kills me. I love having a loud mustang! But I'd rather hear it when I want to (ie Roll the windows down and stomp on it). hahaha Guess I want the best of both worlds - Sickening loud when I want it to be, and nice and comfy for the girlfriend when we're goin' on a road trip. Too much to ask? :dunno:

Id do the transmission tunnel area, then the rear seat area and trunk

Different mufflers or mid pipe and get rid of the drone. I hated the drone my flow's made.
sound deadening matt is more for road noise, the drone will still stand out imo.

If you do it- what Irall said, or if your gonna do the whole thing do the floor, firewall and behind the door panels too for a nice quiet ride.

I had flowmasters before these Dynomaxes and I really hated the drone. The Dynomax UltraFlo is straight through, and packed with sound deadening material in the casing that's *supposed* to reduce cabin resonance. Know what though? They're a LOT quieter outside the car (especially at idle) and drone just as badly in the cabin. So I really don't think changing the mufflers is going to change anything. And this was all pre-UPR midpipe. The midpipe just made it louder...but going from 6 to 2 catalytic converters is going to do that to ya! :hammer:
Questions about the Dynamat, since I don't know anything about it besides what it does. First, are there different manufacturers that are better? Second, it installs under the carpet, right? You can't just stick it to the bottom (outside) of the floor pan, correct?

That's strange that changing the mid pipe didn't change it. mufflers will effect it the resonance tone, but it's hard to say until you stick it in and try it.

All the Sound mat I've seen put in is on the inside, stuck to the floor. I don't think it would do well on the outside, or take the heat of your exhaust.

I hate loud mufflers/exhaust, and do everything I can to minimize the noise. I plan on covering the entire floor of the car in dynamat, and buying that "mass-back" carpet from LRS that helps to quiet the car down too.

Or, just buy a turbo kit and you don't have to worry about noise anymore. :)

Dalamar - the midpipe did change it, but didn't really change the note. Just the volume. I never had the Flowmasters on when I had the X pipe, but I'm curious to hear what it would sound like. Might check out 'mustang exhaust' forums and see if anyone posted a sound clip with that combo.

I wonder how big of a deal it is to get the carpet up and stick this sound proofing stuff down...?

Hey, since we're talkin about loud exhausts ... what do you guys think about straight pipes? Does it sound good? Would it actually resonate LESS in the cabin, since there's no muffler to "resonate" in?

straight pipes would sound like crap, and I would imagine there to be a performance loss.

I think your biggest gain from the Dynomat would be to install it Under the backseat, side panels of the backseat and on the trunk focus mostly on the back wall and bottom. If it was me I would just do the whole damn car. Dont get me wrong guys I love the exhaust note just roaring through, but when the drone comes in at 1800-2100 rpms thats it!! Im ready to jump out of the car. I used to have Flowmasters on there with the rest being stock exhaust and it was bad I can only imagine it being bad with a full exhaust. Im running the Borla XR-1's and I like them but sometimes I hear other mustangs and man I wish my ride sounded like that. Then there are times where I get on the freeway and its as suddle as can and I just sit back and enjoy the power!!!
