Why not a Supercharged 351 or 331 etc? Then you wouldn't have to change your entire setup.

What wouldn't I have to change if I went with a 331 or 351?

I know the 03/04 cobra swap would be the most expensive. But which would be cheaper between 351 or LSx? Also I want a 6-speed whichever route I go.

I would think the 351 would be cheaper, because then you don't need to get all the parts that will be needed for the lsx (ecu, gauges,wiring...) Plus the 351 blocks are decently cheap if you look around at a junk yard. A stroked 351 would have to at least put you on par with an lsx, add a little boost and you will be a hero, to some people..., well at least me :notworthy:

Going with a 351 over a 302 based stroker requires quite a few different parts, i don't know the whole list though but there has been talk about it on here.

Uh... supercharged 351 is by no means the pinnacle of efficiency. Never has, never will be. A 2bbl windsor in your grandmas torino drinks gas and oil like a fat man and his beer.

lol, hey, I can dream, right? if I was to go for big power, an 03/04 cobra drivetrain would work better for what i do.

I say termi swap. Its Bad @ss. Anyway I vote never put crappy chevy parts in a ford. Theres a reason why chevy is bankrupt and Ford is not. FORD is BETTER! And its lame seeing ppl put chevy engines in Fords.

So I vote Termi swap, then 351 SC. They are both awsome. BUT :thefinger: :sleepy1: :nono: ALL that to the chevy swap.

Or do a Boss 302 bored to 363 SC

We need to know the intended use of the car, target class, weight, budget, etc. to make any sort of recommendation.

Daily driver?
Street/weekend cruiser?
Highway pulls?
autocross?
road racing?
drag strip?

A combination of some of those?

The people giving answers above before knowing any of that information are just answering based 100% on their pre-determined biases and assumptions as to what the car is going to be used for.

I seriously hope you are intelligent enough to distinguish the difference between Chevrolet's engine development team and their financing department. Your post clearly does not reflect that amount of intelligence.

Mostly daily driver. I will be taking it to the drag strip every so often. And I'd like to autocross once in a while. OME street racing and some highway.

So basically, a daily driver with some umph and minor suspension modifications so it's not a straight line boat?
Budget?

Honestly, my initial inclination is...why do you want to do an extensive, expensive, problematic motor swap for those goals. Basically any power adder on the market on a 331 based build would make a stupid fast street car for you.

I want a 6-speed tranny with more power than my 5.slow. I wanted to do the LSx swap because they come with the T-56's, get pretty good mpg's, produce a lot of power, and are pretty reliable. I haven't come to a precise budget but I don't want to spend more than, say $7000.00. So that automatically elminated the 03/04 Cobra swap lol.

I thought they made 5.0 bellhousings for the T56?

For what you need, I'd seriously suggest going the forced induction route over N/A. It has the "fun" factor that a N/A motor can never produce. The sudden onset of power is sometimes a violent, scary feeling. Is $7000 the budget for engine/transmission or for the whole car?

I already have the car. It has a 5.0 in it now (over 100k miles tho). $7000 is a rough estimate of what would be my extreme max (would like to spend around 5k or less if possible). Yea forced induction does have a fun factor, I just dont wanna deal with people saying "the only reason you beat me is because your car is blown." I have a lot of LS1 people around here and thats all they say when they lose to a termi.

If I stick with a Ford motor, what options would be availabe either n/a or s/c? 331, 351w, 396, 408?

screw what other people think. I would suggest the 331 for cost control. the 351w swap is not difficult, neither is the LSx, but the 331 you already have all the parts you need. there is a flood of 302 based stuff out there at great prices due to the economy, you could probably pick up an already-done motor for pennies on the dollar. combine that with any of the flood of used supercharger kits out there, and you could build yourself something around 500 at the motor for $4000 I'd say. Give yourself $1000 for springs/shocks/SFC/rear LCA/cc plate and you'll have a decently handling mustang. Keep the $2000 as insurance for other expenses you come across, no build ever goes as planned. injectors/tuning/maf/gaskets/etc.

What all would I need to do a 331? Is a 331 just a 302 with diff internals or what? Would I use my block or get a diff one, cuz I heard 5.0's split around 500hp and plus my block has some miles on it. I'd keep all the accessories. I seen a 331 (I believe) without acc. and intake, for 4 or 5k. I'd still need exhaust (LT's pref.) and a T-56 (which I see for 1500-1800 used).

As for s/c's go. I don't know the first thing about them. I wouldn't know which one to get or how to install it. And I've heard it costs like 1500 to rebuild a s/c if something goes wrong with it.

Correct, a 331 is a stock-block 302 with a longer stroke. a typical kit comes with rods, pistons, crankshaft, main and rod bearings, rings, some gaskets. again, it would be better to buy pre-assembled or even used. combine with a nice aftermarket cylinder head like an afr205. bought used, you could get an entire longblock for that $4-5k price.

I'd seriously suggest just buying a used supercharger kit and go from there. get the power pipe, a smaller pulley or an aftermarket crankshaft pulley, some injectors, a maf, and get it tuned. you can easily make 400 to the tire through the stock longblock. if you get to that point and still want more, then worry about the motor internally and the heads. this method also leaves you room for your LTs and T56.
