Ok so i have been doing research about Wyotech and the website looks incredible and I'm really interested in it. I have seen some forums saying its a waste of time and money so I'm really confused on what to do... I live overseas and currently in university but I'm not happy with my career and Ive been really thinking about moving to the U.S. to study what i really like... Cars are my passion so can anyone give me some good advice about Wyotech?? or maybe another good automotive school?? :confused1:

Dont go to wyo tech. There are alternatives to paying 20k+ and getting fisted.

my buddy got went there. he now changes oil at a dealership.

QFT. No better way said.

When i was in high school Wyotech came to my school and I almost thought i wanted to go because I thought I could get a real job working for NASCAR or something. Learn things I never could.

.... Then I realized the REAL way to learn about cars is to just do it yourself, read books, and learn on your own. Now Wyotech looks like expensive uselesness to me.

I'm kind of glad to hear those responses. I graduated high school in 2003, and I took automotive tech all 3 years it was offered, and was one of three that actually finished the course. I had thought about Wyotech or UTI for a little while. My initial interest was in Paint and Body, but school in general was on my mind. I ended up decided not to go, I dont even know why anymore. Over the last couple or so years, I've slightly regretted it, thinking I mightve missed out on something big. But HANDZ your opinion as well as a couple others make me look at it a different way. I guess I dont feel so bad now. Thanks.

I just graduated High School with a full-paid for Apprenticeship at a Ford dealership, so no wyotech/UTI BS for me lol. I have to go to a technical school though for 2 months every year to upgrade my apprenticeship level until I'm a journeyman. Right now, I work in the Quick service area of the dealership and change oil,fix tires, mount/balance tires, change lights, basically the small crap, but it's a start and having a full time job, RIGHT out of high school with $1800 of tools and a fully paid education? I would have been stupid not to take it :).

A guy that comes into work went there and is completely happy with it. His passion is cars. He works at a dealership, does side work and also dirt track races. He says he would do it again if he had to the chance.

I went to wyotech, I work for chrysler have for the past 5 years and have made the company over 1.2million for an annual average of income. Also have made quite good money off that same time period.

Our Diesel tech is about 35ish, went to wyotech when there was only wyoming in the early 90's and is hands down one of the best guys I know. I still use some of the reference material they gave me, I enjoyed my time there and remember school isnt what he or she did, its what you make of it. Do I wish I didnt pay 20 grand, yea but it got me where I am today and im quite happy with that.

another thing to think of, is that REALLY what you want. i'm in school for a completely different thing, but had thought of this also after high school. One of the best things I heard was from a good friend of mine (the guy who actually got me into mustangs and has helped me learn everything ive done!) He went to a smaller school and took all the auto tech classes and was ready to get out in the field. He was working on his fox one day and his friend who had already graduated came by to help him. Once his friend got there, his friend wouldn't help him work on the car cause it was his job to work on cars and he had lost all the passion on working on his own car. My friend looked at that and thought to himself if he would maybe lose his passion to work on his own car and ultimately decided against.

just my 2cents. i'm all for it, if its what you want!

Well I'm 21 right now and started university when i was 18 and should have been finishing this year but didn't go to well for me because its mainly because i dint really feel a passion for what I'm studying right now... i feel better when i work on my car and the whole performance and racing scenario... for know there is no future for what i like over here.. so if i would go to the U.S. I would really do this good because i cant waste more time... I feel this is my passion and i would love to work on race cars and all that sh*t... Like Ive heard other comments saying its not like there going to find and give you a job its really up to yourself to determine what you wanna be... I think i?m in a serious problem of what to do :dontknow:

Im not saying wyotech is a bad school. But my father has been in the automotive industry for 35 years owned his own his shop and has been a manager for Chrysler and GM. And he always tells my friends to get on the job training, so you can get paid while you learn. Then he tells them when he has 2 applicants 1 who has very little experience and another who attended training he takes the guy with experience. The job market is rocky, think about it before you drop 20k to go to wyo tech and end up being a tire guy. Check out the school of automotive machinists 713-683-3817. www.samracing.com

The guy never had a REAL passion for cars if thats how he feels. The best tech. at my place stil fools around on the side with his own cars and loves cars. He has an older 60s cougar and a 8 second fiberglass bodied S197 mustang, I don't see as working on my car as work related. Keep your hobby seperate from your job.

I thought about Wyotech, but then I found out that I could double major in auto tech/diesel-heavy equipment tech at a local small university for damn near the same price and it's only about 2 hours away.

Ok i just saw samracing website, looks really smaller and not that complete like wyotech, also seems to be in the same price range. What do you guys have to say about this school?

yeah it is smaller but its specific you will learn about machining. At other schools its so general they dont spend to much time on one topic. SAM can actually get you ready to work on heads and blocks etc. Just something to think about.

Not saying it's true for everyone, but I work with 2 guys that both went to Wyotech, graduated and everything, one specializing
in diesel work, and they both are the same level of Tech I am, make the same amount of money, and flag the same amount of hours.. And I
don't have secondary education to pay for like they do. Some people it does wonders, they find a good job, and succeed... But some people
go through the whole process, only to end up being a lube tech somewhere.. The same goes for a regular 4 year college... Some take the knowledge
learned and do well, others go to school for 4 years only to flip burgers when they get out... You only get out, what you put in.
