Hey guys i wanted to buy some afr 165 heads, edelbrock performer rpm II, trickflow stage 1 cam, and
a Paxton Novi 2000 for my 95 Mustang 5.0L. My brother is building a 454 LSX and i don't wanna stay behind.
So do you think i should stroke the 302 to a 347.

with the parts you listed on a stock shortblock you can make more power then the stock block is rated for. i wouldn't waste time or money putting a good rotating assembly in there since you wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the additional cubes with the blower (for long)

now if you have the money and are going to pickup a aftermarket block then by all means the more cubes the better

well if i'd go with the 347 i would buy the afr 185, performer rpm II and the paxton s/c
i wanted to go with a 347 cause i alreay have the 302 so i don't have to buy another engine
but if i could i would buy a 351w and stroked to 408

ditch the paxton and go procharger D1, don't waste your time with a P1SC. D1's are easily upgraded to F1's if you need to, brackets for both are the same. actually, you should think about a turbo. a friend of mine is making 500 to the tire in a fox car. 18 pounds of boost with an automatic, stock heads, stock intake and stock cam.

You can get a decent 351w block out of a yard for pretty good prices. Alot less then a decent 347 assembly. You could just get the block bored a little then build the top end and blow it for probaly around the same if not a little cheaper. Depending on what kind of parts you go for? :dontknow:

If your gonna do a blower...stick with paxton or vortech.

Quality is 100% better and far more efficient then procharger.

That's a great setup...small enough stroker where you can take advantage of the blower.

Plus, you can still use the 165's with a 331 without it being too much resistance..

If you go with a blown anything, go with at least AFR 185s. 408 stroker = 205s min

If you do a small block 302, 165's and a blower would work really well.

If you go larger than a 302/306 then 185's would definitley work better than 165's.

my stock 93 shortblock with 165s, and a s-trim made over 560 rwhp. like i said, unless you want to go with a aftemarket block there is no need to get too excessive with parts

Summit Racing:

Airflow Research 1472 - AFR 165cc SBF Outlaw Street Heads = $1,435.95
Airflow Research 1492 - AFR 185cc SBF Outlaw Street Heads = $1,459.95

Difference = $24 => It's a no-brainer IMO if he going with a blower...

problem is with stock pistons you are limited to a stock cam and that is cutting it close... you would need to flycut the pistons for the 185s.

It took me a minute to see you typed in my quote, but either way, it doesn't sound like the OP is keeping the stock pistons. If whats to even see the 454's taillights he would at the very least go .030 over to make a 306, which requires aftermarket pistons. With a 331/347/357/408, same thing, he needs new pistons anyway. Plus, he'd be better off with a 347 than a stock 351 setup, so I'm not even going to count a stock piston 351 as an option.
