Honestly, you would be into each build about equal $$, really. I would go with the turbo setup, but I like technical challenges. the 351 would be easier.

What kind of condition/specs/year on the 351? for $50 might as well pick it up regardless of what you do.

Might as well grab the 351, blkoutGT is right. $50 for a long block is not bad, really. I would make the 351 run and put it in with the turbo on it, sell the T3/4 though, and pick up a 67 or bigger, and go for broke. literally.

how much boost can the stock 5.0 handle and how much can the 351 handel?
and is the t3/t4 not good or way to small?

The T3/4 may be way too small, it depends on the AR ratio, or RPM vs air flow of the turbo. it may prove to be a restriction to the 351. I know it may be kinda small for a 5.0. the 351 will handle more than the 302 will, the block is a bit stouter. it all depends on how good your tune is.

Ive had both. I prefer the 351, more options to go bigger. Depending on the other mods on the 302 a 351 N/A can be just as powerful as a boosted 302 if not more so.

Definitely go with the 351W, if not for the extra cubes, then for the stronger block. Putting a turbo on a stock 5.0 block will definitely limit your growth. I like to keep it simple and bullet-proof, so I would choose a 351W based stroker and keep it naturally aspirated. Routinely changing head gaskets will take the fun out of a daily driver very quickly.

If your gonna stroke the 351 i'd say go for it. But if not I would stay 302. The 351 is gonna be heavier, require much larger Heads and cam. Your gonna need 351 swap headers. hood Clarence issues and so forth.

Personally if I wasn't gonna do a 408+ stroker with the 351 I would stay 302 or do a 302 based stroker.

i talked to my Friend with the engine he said everything mounts up to the 351 (motor mounts etc)
i have never put together an engine is it out of my league? I'm pretty handy with tools and my brother is a certified mechanic

Unless you're planning on making BIG power, don't bother with a 351. Lots of people here say they're going to do it, few have actually done it.

I have done it.

Paul.

Pan, dizzy, headers. Thats your main items. If your building a motor, you have to buy an intake anyway so you can't say that there is added cost due to a "swap" intake. Your changing it out in the first place so it won't matter. What you'd replace in a 5.0 build is the same what you'd replace for a windsor swap. I have my block, heads, and potential intake sitting at the shop now. I need to call woody at ford strokers and get something going on my rotating assembly, and then get my heads flowed for ed curtis to give me suggestions on an EFI intake if I don't use my port matched vic JR intake that I have from my vic JR heads that are ported. Assembled well to match I don't see how the motor won't be capable of over 500 RWHP with an mildly aggressive cam. Super Vic intake to match it up. Just finished painting the mustang so I'm pretty much ready to either drop the hammer on the motor. Either this swap or picking up a used blower. Cars going to see alot of track time at auto X and road course so i'm a little iffy as to what I will feel will be the best option.
