There is a guy that goes by TonyG on corral that has the following...lol
He is running blower cams now but was running 440-450 rwhp without blower cams for a while

Black 99GT 35th, 5 sp, intercooled V1 S-Trim
500+ rwhp, stock shortblock
11.302/126.15/1.603

Its wierd that some people can throw a rod at 400 rwhp but this guy is running over 500 rwhp with no problems

The kid from Kauffmans was running @500-550rwhp for a long time also. I think Tony had his tuned by Kauffmans too. It has a lot to do with the tune and how much you beat on it.

Its never been something wriiten in stone :)
I've seen lots of guys last at 450rwhp for years but we all know that when you have that much power you will look for races and hit the track as often as possible and thats when rods get bent. You could bump yours to over 500rwhp with a great tune and DD it for a long time if you don't race every EVO and STI you see but who has that kind of will power? Not me.....

Also that 450rwhp # is kind of old school. When we first has these mod motors we had no real tuning and used FMU's and timing adjusters to get what we could. SCT and Dyno tuning has made it much more reliable and driver friendly to have 500rwhp.

Yea...exactly.

Im pretty much addicted to boost so when I get it back together with my blower I will be on it all the time.

I would rather run 400 rwhp and be somewhat safe then run 500 and be afraid of it blowing up everytime I drive it.

Its not like im pedal top the floor from 20-100 shifting at 6k and shit but I cant help but boosting in short bursts pretty often

Really...hmm..I have always heard that anything over 400 rwhp becomes "rod benting/piston cracking territory"

Guess I have no reason to be afraid of 400 rwhp then....I should be there with my setup and like 10 psi I would think.

Maybe I should shoot for 450...haha

there are some things i dont press... unless I have a motor on the stand ready to drop in, pushing a stock 4.6 past 400 CRANK horespower is not on my to-do list...

If you do.. more power to ya... :-D ... lol.

I should be...Ill be running an 03 Pi explorer motor with full bolt ons, long tubes and a intercooled procharger p600 @ around 9-10 psi.

We are talking about rwhp....I was way over 400 crank with my NPI setup.

400 rwhp through my auto would probably = roughly 480@ the crank assuming 17% drivetrain loss with the auto

The 5.0s have problems with splitting blocks...not the bottom ends...I thought the 5.0s could handle more power but not by much. I believe those blocks split around 500 rwhp if im not mistaken

The 4.6 rods and pistons suck, the block is virtually unbreakable

It's all in the tune.... MPH tunes really well. The more efficient the engine flows the less stree is put o the engine. I would be curious to know if he had heads, longtubes, and a full fuel system. My engine held 488 last summer, for a little while at least, lol.

yes, this is still with the stock shortblock. I've been at ~440 rwhp since around 2001. I only have 40k miles to this date, but hundreds of 1/4 mile passes.

Stock heads and a 3.05" pulley making ~11-12 psi. But my race tune is with a 2.8" pulley.

I had different tuners/dynos for the pump and race tunes. The pump tune made 502rwhp/430rwtq, and the race tune made 518/465. The dyno for the race tune reads about 30 rwhp lower than that for the pump tune.

Apparently kauffman has made 530 rwhp for years...I need to go to this guy...damn

He has full stock long block, exhaust...doesnt specifiy long tubes or not...probably not.

He is running 14 PSI to get 440 rhwp which sounds right to me for that much boost and a safe tune intercooled.

I had full bolt ons, l/t and was pushing like 11 psi through it with a pi intake.

oh, you had boost... i thought it was n/a... :)

Hell no...400 crank is like impossible out of an n/a 4.6

would have to have some crazy heads/cams/intake to reach that and wouldnt even be streetable

Kauffmans was the place to go in the North East for a few years. They were the equal of MPH in the South. They are no more from what i understand as a new owner bought the shop. Not sure where everyone went. I was gonna use them to do my tune but now i will go to Matt Hill.

I think they changed to SMG's or something...but I thought the tuner was the same?

Maybe not?
