It could just be the synchros going out in my trans, I wont know for sure until I tear into it. I guess it would be a good time to convert it to an auto tranny sense I hear its a stronger and it will be quicker in a straight line. I will look into that a little more and see what I'm looking at for the cost of that. I really wanted that t-56 but I'm not prepared to put that much cash into this car so I guess it will either be another t-45 or an auto trans. I have another project car I've been working on as well so the extra cash is running thin.

Auto or TKO/T56, don't bother trying to beef the T45, that was an expensive road for me.

I'm going to miss my 5-speed if I go that route but its looking like the smarter way to go. I'm going to look into a C4, never paid that much attention until now. I looked at the specs of that and I think its not needed for my application. So I guess I will go with a 4r70w unless the swap from 5-speed to auto involves more than I think. Time for a new thread :nonono:

C4's are cheap and easy top build tough, but no overdrive makes for a sad street/strip guy.

It'll probably cost almost as much to get an auto swap as it will to get a TKO though, even though the auto is stronger than that too :thumb:

I can get a low mileage 4r70w for around $400, I should be able to round up the parts needed for the swap for less than $500. Still cheaper than a TKO.

I think I might have found out why that 4r70w is cheap, its out of ('03 f150 2 wheel drive) does that matter? I'm not sure if it comes with the stock torque converter or not.

Doesn't matter, unless it had a 5.4, then it's stronger.

You'll have to re-do some wiring inside, but nothing major.

Oh yeah, my car is 1998! What does that screw up as far as the tranny setup goes? About the wiring, is there a diagram somewhere so I know what I'm changing?

It's just the arrangement of the pins on the shift solenoids. I can walk you through that easily enough, you'll need the correct VSS for a 98 also.

Could I just give you a call when I get the tranny? That would be a help. I'm going to try and pick it up this weekend.

I added you on yahoo and AIM, I won't bug you with it until I know I have it for sure. I had found a couple more transmissions since my last post I will spec them out for you.

2001 f150 5.4L(58,000 miles)= $588

2003 f150 4.6L(23,000 miles)= $600

I figured the 1 with the less miles would be a better choice, how long are these 4r70w's lasting before they start acting up?
