Yeah, lol they are absurdly tough. Lower miles is better, but like I've said, the 5.4 is stronger internally. Your call.

The wave plate inside is different. To make a long story short, they clamp the clutches tighter, probably for towing. The also engage quicker.

I'm not sure which I will get, now I got a problem even being able to pick it up because The truck I was going to use blew a gasket. Think I can fit a 4r70w in the trunk of my car? If I can I'm going to use allot of cardboard and plastic to keep my trunk clean.

The seats fold down.... To bad I don't have some exterior dimensions handy of a 4r70w. Okay lets get this back on track, I seriously hijacked this thread. So anyone making any 5.4L progress? I decided I can build 1 with forged internals for just a little more than buying 1 thats stock so thats what I'm going to do. Whats a decent price on a good 5.4L block? If I build the engine stock except for forged pistons and rods how much rwhp and torque will it handle safely? I have a single turbo in mind later on if it the power it puts out doesn't make me smile. Thanks again for all the help you guys have given me.

Just calling your local yard can help too, but call the crappy yard. The yard that pulls them, cleans them, test them, then inventories them will want a premium for them.

+1 to J.R. I got quoted like 3500 for a 5.4 out of a 02 with like 140k on it... I was like you people are F'en stupid.

But yea, you will want to buy a complete motor... trust me... when a timeing set that is like chains, tentioners, and arms cost like 4XX ish... you will apriciate having that shit. Just buy it and tear it down then build it "better, faster, stronger .. etc etc."

r3dn3ck, could you possibly post some stock dyno numbers with that 5.4L? I just looked at a few while they were on f-150's and the best numbers I saw were 296lbs.ft torque. Thats not really worth the swap to me, I was expecting more. I really wanted to do this until I saw those numbers, that was a complete let down. I can get hold of a 4.6 4v just as cheap and might be easier to deal with, plenty of headers and intakes available already. I know you said I could expect 12's out of this swap but I just don't see it with those numbers I saw.

220-300hp, 330-425tq. Depends on a lot of factors. figure on about 270-280hp and 330-380tq for most common builds.

don't look for peak dyno numbers to scream out at you. There's a lot of area under the curve that you get with the 5.4 that's lost on the 4.6. When you read the articles you'll get a better worded idea of what's going on.

330+ torque sounds fine to me and well worth it but thats not what I was seeing.

I just hope my wrenching ability is up to the task of building this engine. I did the install on my gears so I think I'm capable. At first I wasn't planning on building the engine, just swapping 1 in. So I upped the difficulty level from what I first intended. Wish there was a way for me to bench run the engine before I install it after the build.

You can put an engine together if you did your own rear end man, piece of cake. Any fool can read plastigauge, you read a fance dial indicator, lol.
