Ok let me get this allllll out and maybe someone can help me...

First the symptoms.
Sometimes when you start it cold or hot, it will settle to a nice idle, but 30 seconds later will rise wo about 1300 and stay there for alittle bit then drop back down to "normal" It doesnt do this everytime though.

Driving it, at part throttle it has a hasitation kindof "jumpy". If you hit WOT it will hesitate, then pull like a train??? In fifth, just cruising it will be alittle, quirky "jumpy".

I have replaced all the innards of the distributor. pickup, rotor, cap, wires, plugs. New fuel filter. It has a oil leak to, haha maybe more than one, that I gotta fix too. I think the oilpan and real main i are both leaking. Im thinking about pulling th whole damn motor and giving a it a good once over as far a leaks go!!!
The car has a CAI, Long tube headers, and a flowmaster exhaust. I has NO cats, and an H pipe. Someone has tried to eliminate the smog portion, and the air pump is gone. But the "holes" in the back of the intake are not plugged?? DO they need to be? ALso, the EGR doesnt have a vaccumm line to it, but if you do, the egr makes a damn loud noise, and the idle surges like its cammed or something??? I got the car for a reasonable price, it just need some luvin'!!!! If you guys need any more info, pics, whatever to help me out let me know!!

Thanks alot!

OK I called in sick today, haha cough, cough.....

So today I cleaned the MAF, IAT, and checked the voltage at the TPS. Intial voltage was 1.08, and swept to 4.7 nice and smooth. I adjusted it to get .99. is that about right? I also reset the idle per some instructions on the web. started it up and withing 15 seconds the CEL started flashing but it idled better, just seems to hang around 1300 after revving it then it drops down to 900ish. Driving it it has no more hessitation but the CEL came on and stayed on this time. but it ren better than it did this yesterday. Is there any way to check a o2 sensor??? Could these be part of the problem??

Now the EGR is this installed, plugged in, but doesnt have a vaccum line to it??? When I tried to hook a line to it the idle "loped" and the eger made a terrible sound?? Does anyone have a picture of the way the vac lines should be in that area???
Also I cant see those "holes" in the back of the heads, but I can stick my finger into them and it seems they are open??
thanks for everything.....

hmmmm, I just replaced the wires. when i first got it, the car was missing and sheit terribly. after I replaced the ignition stuff it ran alot better. Now it runs even better, but still has the EGR issue and possibly bad O2 sensors? I gotta get the codes pulled!!

OK a few things please.

the "holes" in the back of each head I thought were open are actually closed. which is good.

the egr, what do I do about it?? its hooked up electrically, and to the header, but not to the vaccum??

Also how hard is it to change a rear main seal, and the oilpan gaskets?? Is it worth doing it yourself, or just take it somewhere???

Thanks

rear main seal-easy after you drop the trans.
oil pan gasket - can't remove the pan without removing the engine mount bolt and jacking the engine up.

most likely both.. even then i think it would be iffy... we had to almost pull the engine on my old mans f150 2wd to change the oil pump. unbolted about everything and jacked it way up to get it done..

Damn, I dont wanna have to fool with all the wiring and all that taking the whole motor out, but if it makes it easier then I may do that!!

i hear that.. you may not have to fool with much of the wiring but i'll bet you gotta get the engine wayyyy up to get at it all.
