i have a 1997 gt just finished putting in a 2004 4.6 using the 97 gt harness and computer,
the starter wont kick over with the power and ignition wire, only with jumper cables directly to the battery any tips on fixing this ?

Check your fuses. Then check to see if power is getting to the starter. It sounds like something is disconnected or cut.

Hmmm, did you trace the wiring back from the starter to make sure all of them are good? I'm about out of ideas. I wonder if it could have something to do with the PATS anti theft? My understanding of PATS is that the starter will still crank, but the fuel pump won't come on. That might be incorrect. I'm not the best with the alarm systems.

EDIT: I just did a quick search and apparently the PATS system can cause your problem. You can get that turned off in the PCM by a tuner I believe.

most times the theft light blinks while trying to start it, but the fuel pump comes on, what kind of tuner would disable this ?

the starter is new

If you can jump the car and everything works and the car runs, I doubt that you have a bad starter (cause it started) or PATS problems cause it still wouldn't start even with a jump if that was it. I just think your battery is bad but you said you checked that.

My car acted like that once, but it was a corroded ground cable. I hadn't thought to look at it until a guy I work with mentioned it.

Actually it was my negative cable and a small ground cable coming off of the side of it. On the negative cable, I just slit the wire back to the point I found good copper, cut it, then reattached it. I did the same with the small ground. I still haven't gotten around to replacing it yet..... But it actually did it to me while I was at work, and I was stuck there until we figured it out...
