about to cut my springs.....

i want to cut my front springs today or tomorrow. I have the eibach pro-kit and want the front lower. i have a couple of questions.

How many inches of the coil shouldi cut off? i'm scared i'm going to cut too much and the springs will be junk.

Should i do the cut on the bottom coil or the top coil?

should i grind thge part that i cut flat, so it sits flatter on the control arm/ shock tower (depending on which i'm supposed to cut)

what should i wrap the spring with the keep noise down (no isolators)

ive never really cut springs...seen it done...and this is what im goin to tell ya...ive heard it done multiple times..

a spring is measured in lbs per inch so...say you have a 10'' tall spring....and it takes 1000lbs to compress it 1 inch....and then 1000lbs more to compress it another inch....and then you cut that spring in half...it will now take you 2000lbs to get that same spring to move 1 inch at 5'' tall...so in other words...you cut...youll have a stiffer ride....

now a progressive rate spring is different...say that same 10'' tall spring for example....1000lbs to compress it 1 inch and then say 1500lbs more to move to the 2 inch mark and then say 3000lbs even more to get that 3 inches of travel...

i know its kinda large numbers but they are easy to understand i think...i hope i gave you a spring lesson one on one....now you can decide what you want to do...
