We looked at this car twice already, and got to drive it yesterday, it drives extremely smooth! It's a 2001 Saleen S281 Speedster with 86,000 miles. They are asking $12,500 for it, and said they will give us $8,500 in a trade in on her 2007 Mazda 3.

Her current car:

It is a 5 speed and has 49,500 miles. It's in excellent condition, with only a few minor scratches.

Her future car:

Mods:

-Procharger w/intercooler, making 403 to the wheels
-CDC light bar
-Tonneau cover
-Custom molded $2k sound system in trunk
-Pioneer head unit

The bad:

-Broken stud on front left wheel
-Peeling center caps
-Broken power seat
-Rear right seat belt does not work
-Volume knob is broken
-Small spider cracking starting to show on front bumper

All of the bad stuff (minus the paint) will be fixed in the next week or so, and then we go back to talk business. Is this a decent deal? Maybe $8,500 for her car and offer $11,500 for the Mustang?

Thanks!

No it's a real Saleen, #115. It came as a N/A car, so it doesn't have the heat extractor hood, and the bumper was painted so there is no number 115 on the front, but the car is in the Saleen Registry.

And 4k? I said they would give 8.5k for the Mazda lol.

Is this going to be her only mode of transportation (daily driver)? You have to asses your needs for a car as far as the practical standpoint
goes.. Her Mazda 3 is probably a great all season car.. 4 cyl and 5 speed is a great combo for gas mileage, scooting around town etc..
Assuming that you guys have sunshine 24/7/365 down there in florida, That car might seem like a bother if you have to remove the toneau
cover to put the top up, should it rain. Also, another thing to consider, does your girlfriend have experience driving a rear wheel drive car?
Going from a 120hp Mazda 3 to a 400hp Mustang might be a little big of a step for her, or anyone for that matter.

She can handle the car, she's driven mine which makes 400, and she has raced against some people in it lol.

Her little Mazda is awesome, but she didn't pick the car, her mom picked it out for her and she has had it for a few years now. She's always wanted a Mustang, especially a Saleen. I think if we could get it for 12k out the door it would be a good deal.

It does sound like a good deal. But it comes down to your judgment if you think she can handle a car with some power. Sorry but some girls shouldnt drive, let alone a supercharged sports car.lol. But get rid of the mazda before the trans goes out in it. the mazda 3 trans is horible, oh wait nevermind its a manual.

Where are you getting $5k? I said the dealer will give us $8.5k lol.

And she can more than handle it, most girls are really bad at driving, but she's one in a hundred that can actually drive. She also takes corners on the ZX6R harder than I do lol.

Unless she's owned high powered cars before, I never really agree with newbs purchasing a car like that...especially girls (I can say that cause I am a girl! lol)

Personally, I think a first time mustang/muscle/sports car owner should buy STOCK. Someone who is used to driving a little mazda is going to get in that s/c Saleen, gas it for the first time from a stand still, back end is going to go sideways, driver is going to overcorrect and wreck. I say this because I know quite a few girls who have done this..girls who 'know how to drive'. I'm not against her getting a nice car by any means, but for something she is going to drive every day, she should get something with less power.

Hell, my x had a procharged 04 Mach 1, and was comfortable with letting me drive it around...but there was no way in hell I was ready for that kind of power, and I knew it. I started with a bone stock GT, and worked my way to up where I am now.

It may be a descent deal right now, but really...times are tough, and you can find a deal like that just about anywhere. I would get a nice clean stock 99+ GT, or 96-98 Cobra.

my 0.02!
