kinda cool to actually see some dyno numbers from a pi swap

stage 1

they had a 97 crown vic 4.6 and put a carb on it, a msd ignition, pi headswap and some bbk shorty headers and put down a baseline of 282tq and 289 hp not bad

stage 2

they rejet the carb and adjust timing and have 313 hp and 315 tq

stage 3

port the pi heads and upsize the valves and make 346hp and 341 tq

stage 4

comp cams xe274h and valvesprings and retainers and make 370hp and 345tq

imo that's pretty good, they spent 4k on that and made that much power, of course i think it's stupid they put a carb on top...I'm sure you could squeeze a little more power out of a FI car and a tune.

so take off $500 for intake and carb and jets and get a pi intake and 24#'ers for like $300

you can easily drop so much money into a car it's not even funny, probably about $10,000 later you would still be able to get more and more.

I'm really looking into PI swapping my car but financially it's confusing me. I could get a PI intake and cams. That's around $350 if I did it myself. Or, I'll do a Livernois PI intake kit, ported PI Heads, Comp Cams, Longtubes while you gut the heads off, then a tune. And you've got yourself another 0 onto the first number. :nonono:

You don't need a LIvernois kit with PI heads.

The rear end will hold pretty much anything you throw at it up until about 450. I twisted an axleshaft up like a pretzel on Novi 2200 power and street tires at that level.

The T45, is garbage, and blows up at stock levels. It's official rating is 350 lb/ft of torque.

that makes me feel better :crying: .

the only thing wrong with my car is the tranny makes a crackling noise when it bogs down to far, like if i take off and never go above 1k rpms then it will make the sound, it does it in any gear when the rpms are too low.

it shifts fine and everything is perfect. except for the sound :/

I don't need Crower Stage II cams either but while I've got it apart why not? It's the same for the intake. I know I don't need the kit but I'm not a fan of the RTV for the coolant passage mismatch. Call me paranoid but I like parts that are designed to be run together. I've also heard air flows better through the Livernois adaptor plates.

There's no port mismatch if you are using PI heads and a PI intkae

True but then why not freshen up and port the PI heads adding to the price even more?

I don't see any reason why not if you have the money, I'm just saying there's no need for the livernois intake kit is all, you actually wouldn't be able to use it.

And there lies the problem. Between college and modding my car I think I know which one to choose. It's comparing the best investment of my life to the worst investment of my life.

Dang nice power. You might be able to take off 500 for intake and carb and get PI intake and 24 injectors. then you need to add 350 bucks for the handheld and then dyno time, figure at least 2 hours that's 300 bucks. So right there you are already a pretty good amount over what it cost to carb it.

Exactly. And the name of the magazine IS Hot Rod.

Lots less fussing with a carb for us old farts. :p I have about 8 tuners for a carb in my toolbox, add about 6 more if you include phillips.
