Plyers might break all kinda of stuff/crack plastic. I would go with tape up the light around it so you dont sling hot plastic on it and sand it down with a dremel.

I am thinking a Dremel will be the best bet just hope to get some more input on the subject.

a dremel or some sort of sanding tool will be your bet for removing it. but you may want to look into processes for wetsanding and buffing clear lenses to remove whats left of the "nipples" when they are sanded flush to the lens. otherwise you'll have rough-surface discs where those pegs were.

While we're on the subject, I'll throw this out there... If these "nipples" or whatever they are really called, are supposedly meant for the factory alignment of the headlights, then why do they put them on aftermarket lenses? I've never seen a repair shop do a "professional" headlight alignment, but I'm pretty sure they dont use the same equipment that the factory uses to install and align the lenses on the assembly line.

My only guess is that the aftermarket companies are using an exact mold for the factory lenses... although it wouldnt explain why they dont modify the lens to just eliminate them.

those are aerodynamic... if you shave them off you'll lose 8 RWHP

No thats only on your car Chris. Everyone else then gains horsepower if you shave yours off. We are still talking about the headlights right?

I would consider this as part of any good weight-reduction on a car! Those nipples must collectively weigh like a gram or two! Not to mention, AERODYNAMICS!!! With them gone, they can't "rake" the air going over the front of your car, which leads to higher attainable speeds!

(If you believe that, you might also be interested in buying my brand new set of tire beads. Still in box, never used! Replace your old, worn out tire beads and add stability where you need it the most... At the wheels!)

Does anyone honestly know :)
I dont think anyone on here has actually done it. So, you being the first, will have to do it, hopefully by using one of the suggestions above as a guideline, and let us know how it works.

I took the nipples off mine with a angle grinder with a fine grit.
Then polished the scratches out. Which I was planning on doing because they were yellowed.
As to why they're on there IDK but I would suspect they're for the installation/alignment jig at the factory.

I'll try to get pics for ya tomorrow.
I twisted the nipples off with pliers first then sanded them smooth, so the finish isn't perfectly flat. I just wanted them off so it wouldn't fubar my polishing pads.

yeah, i took mine off when i was buffing the headlights to get the "yellow" off. dremel until they were like 1/8" then used the headlight kit thing to do the rest. came out perfect. smooth as glass, and the kit's paper is so fine, you cant see any scratches after your done. also took off the little "part numbers" that are raised letters on the lights.

Originally when they were made, the lenses had a "box" that was used for alignments, some shops still use them. It is or alignment purposes but now an easy way to align headlights is to measure with a meter stick, to the center of the head light, then 15 ft in front the same height and cross width and your golden on a board.

this is your "mystery" tool
