i posted a wanted ad for some used aluminum heads on Craigslist a little over a week ago. yesterday i got a call from a guy with some Trick Flow 2.02/160, Twisted Wedge, O-Ring, 3/8 stud heads (studs included, but no rockers). He work at a motorcycle shop and seems to know what hes talking about. he says 3 of the header bolt holes nead to be healy coiled becasue he took the headers off so often. he's building a 410w and bought edelbrock 205s instead. he told me $600. my dads coming with me tomorrow to look at them, and if they look good i'm buying them. anything in particular i should keep an eye out for? i hope they are nice, i REALLY want heads.

Bolt holes (you know some are bad, but make sure they can actually take an insert), check the plug holes, and check for bent valves/bad seat's.

Wish i could get as lucky as you assholes on Craigslist... hell a buddy of mine was looking through the other day and found a Red '98 GT for sell for $4900, only the entire front end was smashed... needed a hood, both front fenders, bumper cover, bumper support, both headlights, foglights, new paint, and i would have double checked the radiator as well... seems like i'm just not as lucky.

You'll need to use Fel-Pro 1006 o-ring head gaskets with those. I would have him heli-coil the holes first to make sure they're salvageable. I wonder why he had the headers off so often?

i would be very cautious with this deal. like previously mentioned, make sure the bolt holes can be re-used.

Re: buying some used trick flows

thanks everyone. i'm headed there in about 30 min. i'm going to bring a header bolt with me and check how bad they are. i have heard you can tip the head on its side and pour water into the ports to check for warped valves, so i will do that. not sure why he took the headers off so much, i will ask him though. he seems honest over the phone but we'll see

thanks for the help

Re: buying some used trick flows

well i got the heads! they look great. they are the newer style with "trick flow" engraved on the front and back of the head. twisted wedge, 2.02 valve, 1.60 exhaust, 3/8" stud, o-ring, and springs that can handle up to .550 cam with 1.72 rockers and i think he said 210cc. the guy was really nice and seemed to know what he was talking about, and seemed to be somewhat wealthy and just didnt want to go through the hassel listing them for sale. i did all of the tests to them and the heads pasted lol. i will be taking them to a machine shop to have them all checked out, and hely coiled. he even have me his business card in case i ran into any problems and he just did a 410w swap into his 90 lx and told me when i'm ready to do my swap to call him and he'd be more than happy to help me out. he also gave me a couple of numbers to some reliable machine shops in the area.

once again, I LOVE CRAIGLIST!

Make sure to factor in $100 for o-ring head gaskets. Glad they worked out.
