Chris made a good point in another Thread on here.

if they go under that means a HUGE shot to manufacturing here in the United States... without their strongest supporter prices will be forced to go up for those auto makers in the US who are still around. Higher prices for them means higher prices for us. the higher prices for us means fewer purchases...

If GM goes under, it wouldnt surprise me if ford isnt far behind.

This article even says it would be trouble for Ford. Ouch.

A sad day for America. I really feel for those that are affected by this. These are historic brands that have a lot of tradition.

if i were GM i would axe Buick and keep Pontiac. what does buick make anyway? would any of you actually own a buick. and why keep GMC? although i'm more of a GM guy, I'm not really opposed to driving any particular brand. i don't like seeing ant company close there plants because that means jobs are lost. The airlines were in deep trouble a few years, a lot filed bankuptcy, some died and some got stronger and without govt. bailouts. why can't the automakers do the same thing.

No need to be a smartass. It was going to happen if anybody had any doubt that it would is pretty dumb. They already have started closing saturn.

We all knew it was going to happen but you didnt "Hear" it a month ago... I could've predicted GM closing Hummer years ago and when they finally did it say I have known for years. Same principle...

I don't know why GM would shutdown Pontiac before Buick... Pontiac is WAY better than Buick.

Buick sells to older people.

but they still have Cadillac. Pontiac is the only "driving excitement" division but maybe it just wasn't turning enough profit.

This is a sad day for America. Just goes to show that if you're looking the wrong way while crossing the train tracks, you're not gonna see the train comming until it's too late. The American auto industry has not been keeping up with the changes in what the public wants, and inefficient business practices, ineffextive upper management, unreasonable union demands, and a bloated pension system have ruined it all. OF course the downturn in the economy puts undue stress on the whole system, but if good business practice prevailed, GM would be able to weather the storm. I feel worst for the auto workers who will be out of work.

I will ALWAYS buy American.

I feel like I would want to do the same thing, but if you look at the numbers behind it its an easy decision. Buick's sales are on the rise, and in China theyre GM's best selling brand. China's buying power is on the rise, so cutting off that large of buying force would in the long run hurt GM further. Im a car guy always will be. Pontiacs rich history in the performance world will be missed. I know it sounds silly now, but Smokey an the Bandit is what hooked me on cars. Ive had more Trans Ams than anything. One day Ill find my crown jewel (73 SD Trans Am), and life will be complete in my mind. The current G8 is one of the best bang for the buck performance sedans in the world. Not to mention it looks great too. I hope GM has enough sense to move that car over to Chevy, rebadge it an Impala, and bring some honor back to that name plate. The G6 is one of the best selling GM cars also. Is it going to fall away?

hmmm lets see...

G8 to Impala
G6 to Monte Carlo.. yeah get another 2 door Monte ok...
Current gen Impala goes away and is taken up but the capable new gen Malibu

interesting....
