To the OP, I run an MSD distributor in my race car and quite a few other project cars I dd. Their advantage is that they have bearings on the shaft, where the stockers use the housing as the bushing. I use stockers as well, they work well. I have had MSD pick up coils fail in a few distributors, but it seems they have corrected that issue lately. And no, the internal electronics are not any fancier than the stock stuff. It's just how the shaft is secured and centered in the housing that is different about the two.
