I'm not trying to threadjack, but since his question has been answered I thought it would be ok to ask a somewhat related question. What is the timing supposed to be set at, on a stock 94GT? My chiltons book says 10 after TDC, but man that seems like a little much. Then again I have not timed very many vehicles.
You mean Before top dead center(BTDC) and it's actually good to go 13 or 14.

To the OP, I run an MSD distributor in my race car and quite a few other project cars I dd. Their advantage is that they have bearings on the shaft, where the stockers use the housing as the bushing. I use stockers as well, they work well. I have had MSD pick up coils fail in a few distributors, but it seems they have corrected that issue lately. And no, the internal electronics are not any fancier than the stock stuff. It's just how the shaft is secured and centered in the housing that is different about the two.

Ok so I should go 13 or 14 before top dead center. Good to know. But, I have to ask, why would that be better? How does it actually help? And wouldn't I have to run premium fuel if I did that?

Advancing the timing is like free HP unless it pings.
About max timing on Sn's is 14*ish
I'm running 12* and still able to run 87 octane. All engines are different though.
Put desired octane fuel you want in it, get the engine up to operating temp, set timing to desired advance, take it on a spirited drive.
If it pings then back it off a degree then go for another drive. Repeat till it doesn't ping anymore.

Will do, and thanks for the great info. I just want the option to run 87 octane if I'm low on funds that month. I'll likely usually run 93, but I really need to be able to run 87 as well.
