You can replace them easily without touching the lower control arms. Jack the rear end up, one side at a time, take the lower shock bolt out and the swaybar out. Then lower the rear end down, and it'll droop plenty far enough to get the spring out and slide the new ones in. Takes about 20 minutes.

If you have a helper, you can do both sides at once, and don't even have to remove the swaybar.

yeah honestly the rear springs are easier if you don't unbolt the control arms. here's all you gotta do:

place jack up under the pumpkin just enough to remove the pressure from the rear shocks. Remove the lower bolt from each shock and slowly let the rear axle down. From there you can slightly jack up one side to release the spring from the opposite side, remove and install the new spring and then reverse it for the other side. Then just jack the axle back up into place and rebolt the rear shocks. cake compared to the front.

you can do it like Bullitt said too, i just didn't take the time to read his post before typing mine.

As has been said, you don't have to release the LCAs to change springs. In fact you're safer if you don't!
When the time comes that you do change LCAs though it looks like you have siezed LCA bolts. These are pretty common. I've fought with those a few times and have used a cutting wheel (4.5" disc works best -thank the Lord for Harbor Freight!) to cut the bolts out. DO NOT buy replacement bolts from Ford stealership, THEY WILL RAPE YOU. Like $40 for their LCA bolt kit. I bought 2 zinc coated bolts (should help to keep me from having siezed up bolts again in future) grade8 -same as factory- bolts from my local hardware store w/ locking nuts and washers for $8. FU Ford dealership!

I've seen people with a lot of problems with the lower control arm bolts. Thank god my car came from Florida to North Carolina and has never seen anything that resembles winter weather, and they were a piece of cake on my car.
