well I picked up my car Yesterday after the automatic install, retune, reallignment, pinion adjustment session.
half the delay was me being gone, so anyway I drove it home last night, tuned automatic and i LOVE it.
I was getting a harmontic vibration past 80mph and the idle surging was an issue. they got it tuned out and it idles much better, with some small surging for 10-20 seconds.
partly an issue with my overlapping cams, messes with the timing and the good old 96EEC is a PITA to adjust for that.
expired plates so I didn't speed like crazy, but I had to hit it once on the freeway. crusing at about 75, and a 300 kept riding my tail because I have a nice a*s.
no cops visable, room ahead, so I floored it. it kicked down into 3rd and the turbo wined loud for about 3 seconds. 120mph. very smooth.
SO I'd say that's a good first pull drivers test.
I really think shifting is overrated. Part of it is that I'm older and have shifted plenty. the other part I attribute to the stifness of my car's drivetrain. coilovers, torque arm, panhard.... there's no squish in the drivetrain. it was to choppy bumpy irritating to shift. you had to do it just right or the car would shake, annoying in traffic and all that jazz.
Now I did love dumping the clutch when I felt like it, but at over 500HP I think I can still get some smoke out of her.
my alignment was way off. I had it aligned by Ford in Phoenix last year, and the guy was an idiot. everything was off including my panhard adjustment. WTF!??
My tuner brock took care of all that stuff and didnt' charge me any extra. he rocks.
Life is busy, so I'm chipping away at this as time permits.
What I have letf to do is.
- remove console and remove nitrous controller, and check the plug for my OD button. it's not connected. reinstall and do something with the broken ash tray door.
- new deck
- adjust coilovers up 1/2" and see how that effects ride quality. suggested by MM.
- get new gauges and finish the mod to my center console.
- replace my alternator. it is putting out low voltage at idle and not consistant. it's one of the few stock parts left. so I'll probably get it rebuilt and keep the chromed housing.
- Install Trans cooler
and I'm sure there will be a bunch of fine tuning to the car and ilde ect.
she's still at 8# and will be turned up to 12# once I get a feel for her.
all in all, I should have kept it an auto from the beginning. as a turbo espically since it keeps the turbo loaded through the gears.
