Unfortunately I need to Ball on a budget. So no bassani X for me.. it will be an LARperformance made in South Jersey. As for tail pipes. I'm trying to decide between the cheaper pypes kit or the flowmaster kit. The bassani mufflers are male and I am pretty sure both tailpipe kits are male IE "not flare for slip on" so I might end up having to weld them or try and flare them. And if I have to cut them up to weld I might as well add Vee bands and go for the cheaper pypes kit since it appears to be $130 cheaper

I still have a set of Bassani tails sitting in my shop. I ground the welds off and separated the tubing as I was originally going to modify them to fit around the jungle gym of rear suspension I have but went with some IRS tails instead. If you want I'll grab some pics and box them up just pay shipping. You will still have to weld them back together but since your planning on welding yours back up it might be an option as the Bassani tips are way nicer than the flows.

Making me rethink my springs and not going full coil overs all around lol. Down the road perhaps..

What's making you rethink coilovers? Remember my set up isn't mounted in the stock location. They mount inward of the frame rails. You would be using a conversion kit with the coils mounted in stock location.

Hmm.. yeah you make a good point, I think it was more for adjustability. I will cross that thought road when my caR is back together and driving right Lol

Well the shipping email hit for the LAR O/R stainless X pipe.

Since it does not appear to have a thermactor pump tube. I decided I should pull the stuff out(not hooked up with a belt from the previous owner anyway) I also decided it was time to pull the tranny to fox the spedo gear. So out the trans came.20250507_214031.jpg

I will remove the tailshaft housing and fix the speedo gear perhaps tomorrow if the weather permits. While I was in there I removed the smog pump setup.
This will go on the shelf in case i or someone else down the road needs it. 20250507_213608.jpg

I am frankly shocked at how large that system is. I still need tk block off the 2 vacuum lines and place plugs into the back of the heads. I grabbed some 5/8-11 set screws, but I can only get the passenger side started and only goes 2 turns before it seems to hit build up city.
I may try to chase the threads if i can find a tao,but i doubt i have room to get one in there. I might slot a set screw and try using that as a pseudo tap.

The drivers side i can't even get started.
Open to ideas if you have them. 20250507_214100.jpg 20250507_214107.jpg

Alright. I took one of the set screws I had, slotted it(4 slots deeper than thread depth angled slightly to assist in pushing the debris out while turning it.) Ran it in and out 1/4 turn at a time for whaT seemed like forever, and now it goes In less 1 or 2 threads. Was able to clear out/chase both sides. (No $40 lmr block off plates for me! Winning!!) Now I will probably just use a shot of rtv permatex black, and send in some set screws and stamp that one as finished.

Then it was about to down pour so I grabbed the transmission and jack, ran it down into the basement so I can work on it at leisure at night. 20250508_170930.jpg

Of course part of me wants to learn how to rebuild t5 just because. So I have been watching videos and debating if I want to sink a bunch of money into parts to try and eliminate transmission whine on a trans I might not be using for more than a year or 2... (for the sake of learning of course) What do you think? Is it a fools errand to spend money to learn about assembling and disassembling a T5 and the proper gear meshing? I may end up having to rebuild 1 or even 2 of the TR3650s I have in the future.

Nice work. I tend to not think of money spent "learning" as a waste. I think it would be a useful skill.

Yep speedo gear clip broke
20250510_100510.jpg

Did notice a lot of wear here20250510_100530.jpg

Very tempted to rebuild it. Orrrrr I can shove it back in, enjoy the car and go through it in a year or so when I have a garage and the v10 is going in.

Also. X PIPE ARRIVED!!

Alright, I decided to just fix the speedo clip and reassemble it and shove it back in the car. I will play around rebuilding a t5 when I have a garage and my green car together. Put it back together, sealed it up with anaerobic sealant. Then stabbed it back in. Put the drive shaft. Shifter and interior trim back in and filled the tranny.

Transferred thr 02 sensor to the new X pipe. But then when I went to put it in. My exhaust manifold flange studs are not long enough >_< ughhhhh. In my mind the options are remove the studs for longer ones. Or remove the studs and replace with bolts which may require drilling and tapping. I tried using my old tired makita impact but it just didn't want to Play ball. Perhaps I'll see if a friend has a younger impact I can borrow. At least I went to loaes and picked up some hardware for the X pipe to catbavk junction. ALMOST THERE! Once this is driving(hopefully with a working speedo) I will consider my options for tail pipes again. No tail pipes is pretty miserable.

Oh! Update, green car heads won't be finished till "first week of June" ughhh

Start soaking the studs down with PB blaster or the like. Keep soaking them down daily. The studs will eventually come out. Or hit them with some heat. Don't use blots you'll regret it.

Think I should locate longer studs or just do make shift studs out of threaded rod and a nut to hold it in?

Well I purchased some m12x1.75 SS threaded rod, nuts and flanged nuts off of scamazon. Cut the rods, double nutted them and threaded them into the manifolds with some loctite blue. Then ran one of the nuts down tight against the manifold. The other is replaced with a flange nuts for the down pipes. Was able to put the LAR X pipe up and get it attached to the mufflers.

A super rare opportunity popped up on marketplace. FOX body bassani tail pipes for a respectable price so I drove the 90 minutes each way into and back out of PA.

Unfortunately the newer bassani mufflers and flow tubes that the previous owner welded together lacks adjustment... so when the tail pipes are put on the drivers muffler hits the frame rail or the tip hanger hits the gas tank. I think I need to add a joint infront of the muffler so I can rotate the flowtubes to put the mufflers in a more favorable angle and position. The passenger side doesn't hit anything but for whatever reason the tip is hanging down 3" still trying to figure that one out. Not sure whether the tube coming out of the muffler is pointed downward causing all of this shenanigans or if the tip hanger is too long. More pics on this later.

I found an 8" long 3" setback chrome handle off of ebay with 3/8-16 ball threads.. so of course modifications ensued to make it fit the triax base that used m8? threads. And the cj pony parts white knob that was m12x1.75 thread.

First I took the knob and found a 3/8-16 helicoil went in perfectly.
Screenshot_20250531_140602_Gallery.jpg
Next I took the triax off drilled the holes to 5/16 then tapped it to 3/8-16.Screenshot_20250531_140551_Gallery.jpg

Then pseudo assembled itScreenshot_20250531_140559_Gallery.jpg
Next I modified the boot slightly...
Screenshot_20250531_140606_Gallery.jpg
Then installed itScreenshot_20250531_140630_Gallery.jpg
With how I have the seat laid back far In. The car it sits nicely when in 3rd gear. Very little reach I'm a relaxed stateScreenshot_20250531_140622_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20250531_140611_Gallery.jpg

The interior is more or less complete unless I feel compelled to put a style bar in, fix the fabric covering on the rear pass. Speaker or do bullitt pedals. :)
