damnit aaron i was gonna tell him you have to sprinkle the magic pixy dust that comes with it on your rear axle. now its ruined.

:rollinglaugh: Sorry Jerry :dunno:

A 23 tooth speedo gear will put it within 5% accuracy. Mine's off ~ 5mph or so.
i just got my 4.10s and a 23 tooth speedo gear and mine is off 10-15 mph

Ok, so I drive about 10miles per day and never get over 65 miles per hour but I wouldn't mind having "decent" mileage on the highway for trips. I currently get 16-26 MPG depending if i'm in town or perfect highway driving.. What would 3:73's do to my mileage? I ask because my dad doesn't want my mileage plummeting. I need some real numbers here please.
Thanks- Travis

Maybe 1-2mpg on the highway. In town you might pick up some mpg. In my gt I went from 2.73's to 3.73's and only lost about 1 mpg on the highway but I picked up 2mpg in town. I have 4.30's in my Mach 1 and it gets better gas mileage than my GT did.

Sorry guys I simply don't have time to read this all right now because I am at work, so I'll answer this now, then read it when I get home.

How can you tell if your car has gears. My speedo is off, and my bf seems to think riding along with his car and seeing what RPM were at if I'm lower it has lower gears or higher my gears are higher than his stock ones, which sounded like a good idea butttt he has a cobra and it's a 99. so don't they have the same gears stock anyway which wouldn't that make them off on RPM riding side by side anyways? I mean I could be wrong but I'm just checking.

Also what I was asking before I went off on my tangent. How do I find out what gears are in it? Any simple way?

'96-'98 GTs came with all of these: 2.73, 3.08, or 3.27. Your differential originally had a tag, if it's still there it will say what you have.

'99 Cobras had 3.27's.

I think my car has original gears is there a way I can tell by the speed and the rpm's. A buddy told me if im in 4th gear at 60 mph and the rpm's are around 2k then there stock. any truth to this?

Find out how many times the driveshaft spins compared to one turn of your wheel. Oh, and I have 2:73's in my 5speed 94 GT.. I hate them.

ive got a 96 gt and was planning to put 4.10's in, my dad had a 95 with 3.73's. he thinks its going to be too much and im not going to like it. we have a friend who is a ford tech and mustang guy himself- hes owned em all it seems- and he said 4.10's will be real good on the car. i dont daily drive it, its a weekend toy/red light racer/family cruiser on good weather days. whats you guys take on my situation?

I have 4.10s and highly reccomend them. There are a lot of different opinions between 3.73's and 4.10's. If you're staying off the interstate, 4.10's are the general consensus. My 4.10s in my 4v put me at ~110mph at the top of 4th at the trap in the 1/4 mile. When I get my T-56 I'm going to 4.30's!
