First, a warning on cost. I guess word has gotten out about how good this stuff is- google GM SYNCHROMESH and see how many forums came up as being in favor of the stuff.
Generally you'll run $10-$20 a quart, for that reason, I may go to something else on the next change. I paid $15 and change at Barton-Birks Chevrolet in Newburgh, NY.
Now for details...
I first used this stuff several years back in my old '87 Camry that was notchy- grinding at WOT- into 2nd and the other gears were getting a bit rough at 125K. Had NO problems after the Synchromesh! My T45 has been notchy going into 5th so I decided to try it in my '97 GT.
I drained the original trans fluid at 97K. It came out pitch black and ughhhh- looked like it was never changed. Replaced with Mercon III and planned to run for 3-5K before going to Synchromesh- well I ran it for about 10K instead- it came out black and with metallic particles! Lovely... Guess I'll have to save for a TKO500 cause
Anyway... I gave it about 3.5 qts of Synchromesh (book calls for 3.3), sealed my Pro 5.0 down with Red Loctite that I let sit for a solid hour before starting/driving, and decided for giggles to put my Tri-Ax handle back on. This time I mounted it on the left of the shifter- last time I had it to the right.
All around it's been a huge improvement- with the Tri-Ax handle, it's easier to shift and I can reach the handle a lot better. I prefer the handle mounted to the left- you have more leverage, you're pushing the lever rather than pulling it. The Synchromesh has smoothed out shifting over the old stuff, and 5th is still a little notchy but a lot better than it was. Money well spent...
