First, a warning on cost. I guess word has gotten out about how good this stuff is- google GM SYNCHROMESH and see how many forums came up as being in favor of the stuff.

Generally you'll run $10-$20 a quart, for that reason, I may go to something else on the next change. I paid $15 and change at Barton-Birks Chevrolet in Newburgh, NY.

Now for details...
I first used this stuff several years back in my old '87 Camry that was notchy- grinding at WOT- into 2nd and the other gears were getting a bit rough at 125K. Had NO problems after the Synchromesh! My T45 has been notchy going into 5th so I decided to try it in my '97 GT.

I drained the original trans fluid at 97K. It came out pitch black and ughhhh- looked like it was never changed. Replaced with Mercon III and planned to run for 3-5K before going to Synchromesh- well I ran it for about 10K instead- it came out black and with metallic particles! Lovely... Guess I'll have to save for a TKO500 cause

that little slut can take a beating!

Anyway... I gave it about 3.5 qts of Synchromesh (book calls for 3.3), sealed my Pro 5.0 down with Red Loctite that I let sit for a solid hour before starting/driving, and decided for giggles to put my Tri-Ax handle back on. This time I mounted it on the left of the shifter- last time I had it to the right.

All around it's been a huge improvement- with the Tri-Ax handle, it's easier to shift and I can reach the handle a lot better. I prefer the handle mounted to the left- you have more leverage, you're pushing the lever rather than pulling it. The Synchromesh has smoothed out shifting over the old stuff, and 5th is still a little notchy but a lot better than it was. Money well spent...

Yeah I was looking for it, the only Auto Zone near me doesn't carry it and the Advance near me doesn't either... Crap... Would have rather went with that for half the price but I did what I had to do.

While I don't mean to be skeptical... well, I'm skeptical. Do you have a link I can look at for this? I've been using GM Syncromesh for 8 years or so and if I can find a cheaper alternative that is the same thing, I'll switch.

yea pennzoils syncrosmesh is same as gm, they both have same part number, and chrysler part number will be the same as pennzoils also,

I been use these stuff and mix 1 quart of redline heavy weight shock proof gear oils and the rest is pennzoils on my turbo eclipse awd. it shift really smooth on that mitsubishi tranny , and most high horse power mitsubishi they using the same method.

Like I said, do you have a link or other evidence I can review?

I been have those link when I was still own a eclipse gsx, but not any more, you can go to autozone and write down the part number on the bottle, its should say, gm part #, chrysler part #, then go to gm dealer and match the part number up, or call local gm dealer and told them the part number of the gm part # on the pennzoils bottle, see if its match, I know its match.

If I understand your jumbled post correctly...

Simply because one particular product or PN might be listed as a substitute for another PN, does not necessarily mean the products themselves are one and the same.

Hmm, I wonder if the GM stuff is parafin based as well?

I think until such time as I see unequivocal evidence that they are the same product, I will continue to just buy the GM stuff. It's not that much more money since you rarely need to change your tranny fluid.

Paul I called Tremec Directly to ask if Royal Purple was ok to use in the 3550. The tech guy I spoke w/ stated to me that Pennzoil is who makes the GM Synchromesh.

Yes you can... Ford used the T45 until about halfway through 2001. 98's a bastard year, yes, but they left the T45 alone. Going on 2 weeks now and I'm very happy with the switch.

**oops lol Dave answered the question already. That's what you get for not reading :wall:
