I currently have a Bassani catted X and flow 40s, intermediate stage because the last owner put flows on the car. Not really a fan except at certain RPMs, it's pretty raw sounding for the most part but more that nasty kind of raw...I've heard some offroad X setups with Flows and some sounded good where others sounded like total crap, I guess if I came to a conclusion on it I'd definately say the results are inconsistent. I'm sure a lot of that is due to some having 40s, 50s, 2 or 3 chamber, etc., but you ask someone the details and most are clueless. The better ones used the true x pipes like Magnaflow, Dr. Gas, etc, where the others weren't as good, especially the cheaper ones that simply bend the two pipes together and cut a slit in the middle.
But most of the offroad x + flowmaster setups I've heard have been on 4.6 cars. 5.0 cars I haven't heard many with that setup, but it's pretty hard to make a 5.0 sound bad anyway.
