When I bought my car from my buddy, I was driving it home and did not know the passenger side ebrake cable was rusted solid. It caused the brakes to drag and they actually caught on fire. Luckily it only fried the pads and caliper. That's when I unhooked the rear cables from the calipers. I don't like relying on just keeping it in gear to stop it from rolling. New ebrake cables from Rockauto are like $15 per side. They just came in a few days ago and I plan on putting them on when I replace my clutch.
