I am in Mechanical Engineering. Horsepower is a function of torque. You can't argue that. Horsepower is work being done over a period of time. Speed is a scalar quantity. It is distance over time. It has nothing to do with work.

Torque is a force, or more specifically a moment. Acceration is measured in distance/time^x.
