I am in the process of rebuilding the engine on my 94 cobra in prep for a vortech. Was wondering how many of you run your stock pistons with about 10-12 psi? The combo will be as follows, tfs stage 1 cam, gt-40 heads and intake, 42# injectors, 90mm lightning maf, 255 lph forced induction fuel pump, and tune. Also not sure if I should get a dyno tune with a chip, or buy a anderson pms, or tweecer rt. Any ideas on different things would be welcomed thanks jeff :thumb:

if it is already torn apart, i would recommend buying a good set of forged pistons while its in pieces. as far as a tune goes, go to a
reputable tuner and just get a chip burnt. i wouldn't spend the $900 on the PMS system unless you enjoy changing around your
power combos and constantly tinkering..

Trying to push that much boost and tune it yourself, I'd say forged, and I'm a cheap bastard who rarely likes forged pistons, lol.

As for tuning yourself, I would use the Tweecer RT set-up, however, I have no idea how familiar you are with tuning and engines. I mean you gotta start somewhere, of course, but if this is you first build of any kind, just get a custom chip.

10-12 psi on stock hyper pathetic pistons...without a tune...or a self tuned PMS...you're asking for trouble honestly. Those pistons are going to leave ZERO room for error...especially in a boosted application. Buy the pistons, pay for the machine work, and get it tuned by a reputable shop. If you are going for absolute low budget bang for your buck, I could see you getting by with maybe 9lbs...at the most. Again though, the tune is going to be absolutely critical. Not saying it hasn't BEEN done on 10-12lbs BUT I wouldn't get my hopes up on it lasting long.

I dunno man, I would put some decent pistons in it but does it matter? Probably not. A lot of guys have split the bolck (on a good tune) before hurting the pistons with hypers. If it makes you feel safer, but some good pistons in it. Hell it's already apart. I'm assuming you are shooting for the limitations of the block more than the internals though.

This comes from someone who is more than comfortable turning wrenches, but not comfortable tuning. So take it for what it's worth.

Best of luck!

thats a pretty good kit the only thing is to check to make sure that the c/r is where you want it. the kit should give you a idea on the chart

Yeah, Go forged on the pistons and crank. I am only running 6psi of boost on my stock lower end with a good tune to be on the safe side. Summit sells a good kit.
