ive been wanting to do a pi motor swap into my car so i found one on craigs list for 350$. it needs the lower end rebuilt and i was wondering if it would be worth my time and money to have the machine work done to it. ill probly have the lower end assembled so i know it will hold up but ill do the rest on my own since ive allready rebuilt 2 engines. and can put the heads, intake etc. on
here is the add http://tulsa.craigslist.org/pts/1584723234.htim

im assuming it spun a bearing. id like to put forged internals in with a cobra crank.
any suggestions or ideas let me know.
also wanting to build it up for a sc. :eek:ccasion14:

Its worth it... I would put those heads/intake on your NPI setup and gain some compression, then keep the extra block if it isnt tore up and do a nice build on it with all the goodies, possibly the new Trick Flow heads.......

Whats your plan with the car anyways? forced induction down the line? nice street bruiser with some N20?

use the heads on your NPI motor. you can sell the extra block for $50, the accessories, and you may be able to break even ;-) lol.

No prob.... possibly have them ported while your at it... and I dunno if the compression is too high for forced induction with the PI heads on an NPI block tho.... can someone that knows chime in? Matter of fact, Duff Daddy would probably know, he's a 2V knowledge bank. I have never owned one, just helped build them.

i think going from the npi head to the pi head bumps it up to a 10.5:1 cr which would be high to run boost on in my opinion. i read an article and found out the diff between npi cars and pi cars all the way down to the piston. it would build a decent na though wich could get me to were i wanna be till i get the other motor built.

Cool man... sounds like you did your HW.... you could run a blower on 10.5:1, BUT it would require race gas, or a new fuel system so you could run E85... a pain in my opinion.

the PI heads will take your car from barely chirpin rubber in 1-2 and 2-3 to spinning the stock tires in 1, the 1-2 and usually a hard chirp 2-3. Of course the car I drove had Comp Cams in it, they were the mid-size street cam, the car didnt have a tune yet either.

What are you gonna do for a tune on it? not only are you possibly gonna need one, it will run like a new car with a nice tune after the heads/intake swap.

Can anyone confirm that the PI heads would bump the non-pi block up to 10.5 c.r.? cause that would be a pretty sweet deal.

well this i guss is the best way i can confirm that pi heads on a npi motor will raise the cr to 10.5:1 and thier are 2 reasones for this.
1. the champers on the pi heads are smaller42.45cc compared to the npi 49.77cc
2. the pistons on the pi block have a deeper dish 18.5cc compared to the 10.5cc dish of a npi motor.

That will work, ive heard good things about the SCT tuners. You could run a Moates Quarterhorse as well, then you just use a laptop with a program called binary editor to tune it.

yea im gona stick with the sct if i do this. i understand binary code some but not enough to go crazy with it lol. also i need to do alot more studying to do my pesonal tunes to make a car run right with certian things on it.

Gotcha... the SCT is a good choice, cant go wrong. Lemme know how the swap goes, two dudes that know their way around the car and a weekend it should be almost complete. cam timing is the hardest part, and that isnt too bad either.

you dont need to know much binary code to use the binary editor, its much easier than the TwEECer stuff of old.

I understand, money problems happen to the best of us. I was unemployed for 9 months straight, that hurt alot. I am pretty sure another mota is gonna come along at the right time.

At the least, i see PI heads and intakes for sale alot. So maybe if you cant afford the hole motor maybe just those pieces. Just an option.
