On the worst fucking day possible.. my girls bday. I have to rant because im really pissed off and my girl is mad @ me. So, today is my girls birthday (well yesterday) and i was going to pick her up from work. Got onto the expressway everything going fine.

Shift from 2nd to 3rd with the RPMS at like 4500 and then my speedo gauge goes to 0 than everything power goes off expect the lights and radio... (the power brakes turned off.. power steering off.. etc)

So i coast it up the ramp and into a bad neighborhood and just sit there thinking what the fuck just happened.

My girl is 35 minutes away getting off work soon and im stuck in the hood with people walking by looking @ the car like ==> :icon_rr:.

So, im calling my girl and getting her voicemail on the 1st ring. (turns out her phone was dead).

Ended up getting the car towed.. im pretty much broke now money wise. My girls pissed @ me because i pretty much neglected her last time something happended to my RED car and thinks im going to do it again.

/rant over.

Any Solutions:

Every gauge is working expect the oil one.
The car cranks healthy, but doesn't fire up .

Would a dead fuel pump cause the car is do this? Just cut off out of nowhere?? No power steering... the car cranks fines but cant fire up??

Sorry, im frustrated right now. Ill make better sense in the morning.

i would say the fuel pump seems like a likely cause. when you turn the key on can you hear it kick on?
sorry to hear about your day.

No i cant hear the fuel pump prime.. i just hear a click coming from the engine @ the the time the pump usually primes.
Everything else seems fine. On warm starts the car does idle up and down and cuts off. Maybe it is the fuel pump.

try tapping on the gas tank with a hammer or something near the fuel pump. sometimes that will make a pump that is going bad work (temporarily of course)

Nope, nothing. I just hear a click instead of prime sound. I mean since i got the car i would hear a weird whirring sound coming from the back seat area while the car running sometimes. I never put two and two together..thought it was normal for this older mustang.

Silly question..............do you have gas? I seem to remember a certain Cobra getting a ride on a flatbed because he ran out of gas.

It could be the stator module inside your distributor....had the same exact thing happen on my 95. Sometimes it would start after this happened and letting it sit for awhile but there was no telling when it would shut off next...but you said the fuel pump isn't priming?

Sounds to me like the fuel pump. 5.0's are notorious for being able to hear the pump prime and run. If you cant hear is then its def not working. I think mine is aftermarket and its alot quieter, i thought mine was out a coupe of weeks ago so i crawled underneath the back end and had my wife turn the key on. i could hear it. you might try the same thing. if the pump is working, start with the ignition system next. remember, its usually the little things. dont forget fuses.. i always look over a blown fuse.

I'm not sure why a fuel pump going out would cause things to lose power, obviously the power steering stopped working because the engine was off. You could try hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to see if you have any fuel pressure, i'd do that before dropping the tank. I would check electrical stuff like the coil or alternator but Idk.

if you can hear the the fuel prime, im going to say that sounds like the alternator could be the problem.

Check the little switch in the trunk, the little red switch back there. It needed to be reset in my car nce and I had one hell of a time figuring it out.

Yeah the inertia switch is a good idea, I've also had fuel pump relays go bad.

+1 On both of these.
This happened to my car on Father's Day heading to a car show. Going 80 on the interstate and it shut down completely. Wanted to turn over, just couldn't. Turns out the distributor and the iginiton modual crapped out.

It's easy to check for fuel, just push the schrader valve on the rail down and see if it squirts out. Wait a second with the key on and do it again to make sure.

Then pull the coil wire off your distributor and check for spark there. If you have it coming out of the coil, then check one of the wires to the cylinders to see if they are firing.

That outta narrow it right down.
